Frazier and Ali have the added bonus of facing and defeating another ATG (when they are not needing of a wheelchair, lol) Ali having also been the 1st ever 3 time Heavyweight champion. Tyson being overrated in that I have seen a couple lists that rate him as high as top 20 all time. But if you notice how you put Louis Wlad and Holmes above all. lol. Just had to point that out
You're overlooking a very important fact which was mentioned a page or two back, and that's work ethic and CONSISTENCY. You can't say that every HW with the ability to beat some, or most of Wlads best wins would have as a rule done as well, for as long as Wlad as. That's what's most impressive!
Wlad has 22 currently about to face his 23, Holmes was at 20. That puts Wlad 2nd as 22 is higher than 20
I stand corrected I recounted it's 18 consecutive which puts him 3rd, but 23 total which puts him second All time defenses. I can admit a mistake. My statement still valid though. But to the point of Holmes not being an ATG with 20 consecutive. Shame on you.... And I'm baffled now what in you opinion deserves ATG status then.
Well I put them in order of title defences, I thought that was obvious? Oh so were penalising Tyson for fighting an 'old man'. Well two can play at that game. What prime greats did the following beat then, Holmes, Holyfield, Lewis, Vitali, Liston? Tysons definitely a lock top ten heavyweight and his resume is better than most guys. Anyone who places Tyson outside of the top ten hasn't got a clue.
There I fixed it for you. As far as your question Who did Holmes, Holyfield etc fight. Holmes should be excluded from that question as his status is sealed by virtue of the 20 consecutive defenses, because if that feat was easily reached why are there only 3 heavyweights in history who have even reached 15, let alone 18 or 20. And I know you put it in order, you still put Louis Holmes and Wlad a whole paragraph above, which is where they belong. hahaha
Ali deserves a pass due to his 3 year forced sebatical. If not for that, he surpasses possibly even Smokin Joe.
True. I was thinking of removing Holmes. Now answer my question about the rest please. Oh and ill throw Marciano in there as well.
Well Lewis and Holyfield both have wins over Tyson so. Albeit in his second stint amongst the upper ecchelon of the division. Marciano's notable wins againt Louis and Charles. They were way past their prime too. Liston with wins over Floyd Patterson. I haven't been making a case for those fighters though.
I said prime, after all, isn't that what you penalised Tyson for earlier? Tyson was nowhere near his peak vs Holyfield nor Lewis and secondly, how can you give props to beating a 'Prime ATG' in Tyson when you yourself admitted Tyson doesn't belong in the top 20? I find it hypocritical that you can give props to Holyfield and Lewis for beating Tyson, despite Tyson being never that good in the first place. So, back to the question again, which ATG prime fighters did the above mentioned beat. If you can penalise Tyson for beating an old Holmes, Marcianos wins over Louis etc doesn't cut it either I'm afraid. And if you can give Liston props for beating Patterson, do you not feel Tyson deserves credit for victory over Spinks?
Facts are facts. Dariusz Michalczewski holds the record for the most consecutive successful lineal world title defences at light heavyweight. Sven Ottke has the second most consecutive title defences at SMW. Nobody even remembers those guys.
I already corrected myself in saying he only had 18 consecutive. But 23 total, and yes counting those what you call paper defenses. Record books count them, so so do I.
