He would be ideal for Liam for his 1st defence on 19 December and could lead to Brian Rose fight afterwards before he is unleashed against the top of the 154lb division
Would be a pretty poor first defence for Liam, a fight with Macklin could be a decent fight because I feel that, more than the Welborne fight, would give us an idea of where Macklin is at.
Neither Macklin nor rose will happen any time soon, as Smith is with FW, the others are with Eddie,. Carson Jones may well happen though..!
i would personally like liam smith to fight a decent operator in his 1st defence, no offence to carson jones but he is a blown up welterweight with no real win at light middle to warrant a shot at a world title. it would sell because he is known over here but liam smith would be too big and strong for carson jones. liam got a very soft touch with the guy who came over to win the title so i would like to think that the governing body might force a decent mandatory on him sharpish because of this. i understand a world champ getting a soft touch for his 1st defence when he has had a tough fight against a rated champion but when you have been handed a vacant title you should have to fight someone in the top 5 as a 1st opponent.
I was thinking the same thing. But tbh he should stay at middle weight. Beat try get in the top 10 rankings of who whatever organisation Andy lees belt is and dat would be a big money fight for him
Macklin is finished - he won't and doesn't deserve to get anywhere near a Lee fight and I don't even think it would be big money. Macklin has no real fanbase either in england or Ireland plus he's coming off KO loses and shaky points wins against nobodies. Lee would bang him out easy. If Lee beats Saunders he will probably be back off to the US to fight Quillen/Jacobs for big money - he won't waste time with Matthew. Jacklin v Carson Jones would be fine for all.
Wasn't Jones linked to fighting Smith a few months back? Don't want to see that fight now Smith is world champion.
