Louis crushes that Miske, stops Brennan, crushes Carpentier, might have an interesting struggle but defeat Gibbons , crushes Firpo in a wild one .. Tunney gives him a very challenging fight .. I think Tunney would beat the post War Louis without question ..

The ailing Miske, likely knows that his only chance is to turn it into a brawl. He might stagger Louis or have a good moment at some point, but I doubt that he lasts a lot longer than he did against Dempsey.

Brennan did well against Dempsey, because he executed a brilliant fight plan. If he tried the same against Louis, he would just have been trying to out Louis Louis. I don’t think Louis lets him see the 12th round.

Carpintiers right hand might pose some stylistic risks for Louis, but Louis is just going to smash him, and quickly.

Gibbons would be capable of giving Louis a competitive fight, but I suspect that Louis would get his respect, and take control of the fight. Louis would either get a late stoppage, or force the fight enough to get the win.

Louis would be a lot more methodical in dealing with Firpo, than Dempsey was. He would take a few more rounds to get the job done, but he would keep his control of the fight.

The Louis of the Tami Maurellio fight perhaps has enough left to take Tunney and Sharkey, but it is not a given.

I often wonder how Louis would have done against the man Dempsey did not fight -- Harry Willls. I honestly don't know enough about Wills to make an intelligent call, but he sure fought a hell of a lot of tough guys.

Based upon the limited film footage of Wills he would be a easy target for Louis pinpoint punches. I don't see the fight going 7 rounds.

I suspect that styles would favour Louis.

Wills would effectively be trying to out Louis Louis.

The film footage is of him at the tail end of his career and is largely irrelevant.

How would Spinks-era Ai have done against Louis?

Harry Wills as I watch his straight up boxing style, reminds me very much
of the later Ernie Terrell. Who truly knows if he was even better ?

Wills had that poor mans Jack Johnson defense. He would not be able to avoid Louis pinpoint shots especially the right hand.

Terrell fought leaning over, he gave up his height.

Wills on the limited footage when he is past prime, looks decidedly average to me.If Langford had the advantage of being the same size and nearer the same age, one wonders how many of their bouts Harry would have won?:think

Wills was past his best but he still surrenders very tamely to Paulino , not a noted puncher.
Louis in contrast went out on his shield against Marciano.

I'm not convinced Wills had the appetite for it when the going got tough.

Langford who knew Wills like no other as they fought many times stated that if they were to fight his money would be on Dempsey as Dempsey was the greatest hwt he had ever seen. This comment is hugely telling as Langford himself was considered one of Boxings best ever fighters.

Its funny how that decidedly average wills doesnt lose a second of any of the footage we have while dempsey was champ. Easily controlling the same wild firpo that dempsey went life and death with and dominating a teak tough bartley madden despite trying to preserve his ailing hands. How did Dempsey look at the same point in his career? Decidedly average getting beaten up and embarrassed by ham and egger king levinsky...
