Just started following MMA recently (except for Fedor) and I have to be honest. When I see someone like Conor McGregor doing what he is doing my first impression of MMA is not that high. He doesn't seem like all that to me. I watched the 2 fights he was submitted quickly and he looks real soft to me. The UFC doesn't look to good when this guy comes in and all of a sudden he is their top attraction. The only difference I see in him from his early fights when he quit easily is he grew a beard to hide his pimples.
his a joke and I hope he gets smashed to bits. and im irish, his huge over here because his got all the brain dead idiots on his side while actual world champions like andy lee and carl Frampton don't get enough attention
Im Irish and McGregor is completley different fighter to 6 years ago, great fighter who will be top of his game for years to come.
He does have good striking ability and can take a punch. He has been staying away from getting into position that would make him tap out quickly so maybe you are right. I think the most important one is staying away from position in getting submitted. Good luck against Aldo, that should be a good one.
Yeah he was boxing for a few years before he went to MMA thats why his striking is so good, he also trains in a pro gym from time to time and spars good Irish pros Gary O'Sullivan and Stephen Ormond who have signed with Haymon recently. Yeah the Aldo fight will be a *******, I think Conor knocks him stiff in 2 or 3 though, hes too big and strong for Aldo I think.
He is good, no question about that. That said, he fights in the 145lb division but stands at 5'9" and walks around at 175lbs apparently. He is too big and too strong for any other featherweight today. No doubts about his skill, but size plays an even bigger role in MMA.
McGregor is very tough and has plenty of heart, he never quit when the going got tough against Mendes, so I don't think he's lacking in that department.
He certainly didn't quit against Mendes and the going did get tough. If you look at his 2 losses (I know they were 5-7 years ago) he quit very quickly. Mendes (for a smaller guy) took him down easily a couple of times. He should have stayed on top of him. Maybe Conor's strength (because he is big for that division) had a lot to do with that. He is one of the reasons I have started to give MMA more energy (because I am perplexed at his success and he does seem to be an interesting character). I am surprised at how quickly and easily some of his wins have come with just one punch. Some of these punches that he took people out with look like they didn't connect fully. Are his punches that strong? I will be surprised if he beat Aldo but looking closer if he keeps off the ground and stays on his feet I will be surprised if he loses. That should be a good fight. We will see who the better man is.
Its a potential barnburner. Unless Aldo resorts to being an ultra bore and taking him down at every opportunity for some brutal GnP we could see an amazing stand up war Aldo calls this fight. Lets hope he goes for a war and not a Greg Jackson "play to their weakness" snoozefest
All of McGregors fights end the same way. Poirer, Brandao, Siver and Mendes all get hit hard enough to turtle up but not hard enough to get ko'd. Really strange.
