It is redundant to mention Froch. Was told to fight Ward and preferred to retire.

Point being he defended it against the next best guy in his division, we've all seen some utter gash get the number one mando spot (hello Paul smith and Derry Mathews)

True, but it still doesn't moot the point.
Mandatories are there so you can't pick your own contenders. One guy might actually be better as another, but prove a much better style matchup. With fighting mandatories there's no chosing AND you can't always hide at home, wich can make the difference between winning and losing a close fight.

Pretty certain it was the final of the super 6, and not ward choosing to lay it all on the line against Froch.

The three that come straight to mind:

1: Civil Wars that led to the creations of the WBC, IBF and WBO.

    2: 'Electing' Gilberto Mendoza

    3: Coggi/GonzalesI

The amount of titles in boxing is beyond ridiculous but the WBA are arguably the worst... 2 world champions ffs.

It's waaaay past a joke mate, bout time they were relegated to IBO status, makes you wonder if they are near broke doing all this
