Even if Ward was there DeGale would still be number 1 :good

IMO the division has been weak for some years now. Its not like it was some years ago and has been weak IMO for around 8 years.

Ward was rated at the top but in some ways by the way things unfolded as he beat Kessler, who beat Froch, who beat Bute but didnt once fight any top undefeated SMW or any top prime SMW.
Ward didnt seem to face any boxer movers and wasnt interested in Bute, didnt face Andre Dirrell, decided against Degale and didnt seem to be interested in Stevenson.

I guess Degale IMO is likely the top SMW and in his first 2 world title fights will be facing fighters Ward didnt

that poll has so much choice, its amazing to think how strong in depth the smw division has become recently.

whereas several years ago, you could only put three names to it, sven ottke (retired/retiring WBC WBA i think), kessler (about to become unified wbc wba i think) and calzgahe (just wbo titlist).

Ward hasn't been active in the division for a number of years now.

Froch was the number 1 from his rematch over Groves until his announced retirement. DeGale has been number 1 since beating Dirrell.

I'd like to see DeGale make a defence against groves and then begin the unification process. The division is as weak as it has ever been and I really think he can unify and clear house. Abraham, Jack, they aren't gonna touch him.

Never thought id say DeGale would be top of the list in my opinion but if i had to say somebody, right now with Ward gone and GGG not yet in the division its DeGale.

Only cuz i have to say one. It certainly isnt a golden age of the division but its a tight one, alot of close matchups, makes for an interesting division. im no GGG nuthugger but he prob tops the division if he is in it.

i can understand why people have DeGale as the number 1 guy, But imo as far as resumes go and in terms of titles held, AA is clearly the best guy in the division. DeGale is no.2 imo.

Do you think Abraham would beat DeGale?

You know, that fight is so difficult to pedict, as good as both fighters have looked lately its definately a fight between the number 1 and 2 guys in the division. But to answer your question i do think AA could beat Degale. DeGale likes to fight, and AA always has power and knows how to set it up. I could see a late stoppage in favor of AA imo. And thats who id favor to win a fight between the 2.

Who considers Bute a top 5 SMW right now? AA is more dangerous at the moment than Bute.

Think he will unify in the next year probably against Jack. I don't think a fight with Abraham will happen unless Degale really wants to go Germany. I'm hoping Murray decisions Abraham and can see Degale v Murray.

Not sure about Ramirez, he might also be a big fight next year.

Just remembered Ramirez is with Arum and Degale with Haymon :patsch
