Louis was also past his best when he fought Conn again.

Was Schmeling past it? Hard to argue that given he gave his career best performance in the first fight and had shown no signs of slippage since. He was favoured to beat Braddock had he got the shot ahead of Louis.

You also could have included Bob Pastor, a fine boxer whom Louis dominated the scoring again.

It's hard to judge the first Walcott bout by film since the fight doesn't exist in full. Across all six scorecards in the Walcott series, Louis was given 35 rounds to Walcott's 32.

It would seem to be an obvious choice.

If he is going to factor in the Charles fight, then he might as well throw in the Sharkey fight, and the Lewis fight.

He could actually have strengthened the case for the prosecution, by including the Ramage fights, but fortunately he doesn’t know the era that well!

Let's play the same game with Ali. Frazier 1, Norton 1 and Holmes. Ali was not that great!

Maybe I'm missing the back story but that's a pretty rude and uncivil response to a guy who's at least trying to present factual information and logic to support his positions. I know that people around here tend to attack anyone who refuses to worship Louis as perfection in boxing trunks, but I think Mendoza's approach is fair, especially considering that people around here attack more recent fighters for "struggling" in close fights before knocking out their opponents all the time.

I could see you maybe making a case for Conn but the others no.

Schemling was a seasoned veteran in their first encounter against Louis. Louis was well passed his prime against Walcott and Charles. Walcott and Charles were magnificent fighters never the less.

Louis had not had a fight in over 2 years when he made his comeback against Charles!
He didn't still have his power, in the 8 fights that he won after losing to Charles he stopped just 3 of his opponents .

This is simply an awful, biased thread by a habitual Louis knocker.

    Janitor has it right.!

What comes next? Mendozy putting up a rounds won per fight by Marciano? How about a rounds lost by Dempsey? I'm sure he'll get " around " to it sooner or later.

A concussive puncher like Joe Louis did not need to score points as he knew sooner than later he would hit , hurt and ko his man.
At the end of the day in his prime he caught up to his man and
put him in dreamland and that's what counts...

His posts have regularly confirmed that.
You can add Johnson,Ali and Frazier to that list.

His idols are Jeffries, Vitali, and Wlad.

I know these stats can be misleading and certainly aren't the be all, end all but I don't see how they're illegitimate garbage. Especially in the case of Louis, who folks around here constantly discuss as having supreme skills and talent (less so for Marciano and Dempsey). Of course it's a legitimate counterargument to argue that Louis' best opponents were really, really good but the fact that they won so many rounds against him is still pretty interesting.
