Both men regarded as underachievers of much higher fighting ability than their resume would suggest. Who wins?

Jessie Ferguson was a fighter with a pretty good left hook and it seemed to work for him against Douglas. Was this best version of James? probably not. Taking Sanders and Douglas at their respective bests would make for an interesting evening. Both guys were roughly the same size and both had unpolished talent that was only revealed on a handful of evenings. My inclination is to lean towards Sanders. He had the fast hands and more power. Douglas might have been a tad more skilled but his career pattern shows that he often found ways to lose important fights.. And unlike Mike Tyson, Corrie wouldn't be giving up a size advantage.

Douglas resume was a bit better than Sanders.

If were talking about the best versions of each.

I'm picking Douglas by TKO in the mid to late rounds.

Douglas always a better boxer than Sanders.

Sanders had fast hands and hit hard, but so did Tyson.

Douglas showed no respect to Tysons reputation, I cant see why he would be intimidated by Sanders.

Sanders always had pretty poor stamina, so as long as Buster makes it out of the first few rounds when Sanders was extremely dangerous, its going to be a one sided beating by the guy whose simply better.

Admittedly Sanders wont have the problem Tyson did regarding size. Douglas had the answer to everything Tyson put forth, I cant see why he wouldn't do the same to Sanders, who was nowhere near Tyson in terms of chin, grit, determination or even stamina.

    Corrie.

It won't take long before Buster is throwing those uppercuts. He sure went to them quick. Wrong guy to throw a long punch like that against. He'd never even see that straight left that'd beat him to the punch.

I take Corrie in this one. Straighter, faster, harder punches. He used an array and wasn't limited just to a counter left straight. He had a nasty right uppercut himself. Check out his KOs of Varakin and Billups to see just how effective it was.

depends of which versions show up but I think Sanders could get to the slower Buster early if not Sanders could win but both men were erratic

Savarese, similar in size but slower than Sanders, got to Buster early. Overall I rate Douglas much higher; to me he was a true contender who managed to win the title, whereas Sanders was essentially a fringe contender who kinda got lucky one night. But...here's the contradiction...I think Sanders has the right skill set to knock buster out. This is a tough one, folks.

Douglas fought Savarese about a decade after the Tyson fight.

I assumed we were talking peak

We know Douglas was at his best when he fought Tyson but when was Sander's best? Sanders hadn't fought in over a year when he fought Wlad and was 36 years old and a Sanders in the same condition was TKO'ed by an overweight Rahman.

Sanders of course would be dangerous, he's powerful and very fast but his speed is due to his very short reach, Douglas would have a big 6 inch reach advantage and with Douglas' quality jab he might have Sanders falling short with his fast counters.

Douglas to me was also a more complete fighter, he had a better variety of shots, Sanders was more of a one trick pony, relying on drawing his opponent in then countering with the fast straight left.

I'd favour Douglas to KO Sanders.

Sanders KO. Too much speed and power. Douglas had one hot night and a style advantage over Tyson. Sanders outside of power was nothing like Tyson at all.

At their best, Douglas has the better resume as well as best win when stacked against Sanders. In this scenario Corrie would definitely jump on Douglas early but he would most likely blow his load since he's always had stamina issues.

    Douglas TKO 7

Sanders' would struggle with that jab, but eventually land home enough left hands to put Douglas away.

old sanders who wiped out wprime wlad easily, or prime sanders who was destoryed by rahman easily?

well i guess the answer is no to prime sanders, since he could not land a title shot when prime so its less than no to old sanders, who easily killed prime wlad in seconds.

I think Corrie would lay him out. It would be extremely uncomfortable for Douglas to deal with a tall southpaw with speed, power, and angles. If he tries to catch Corrie with an uppercut coming in it would end with Buster on his back.
