Say you had an amateur boxer that trained 3 nights a week for a year. Got the fundamentals down, decent shape, footwork etc...

What would happen if he got into a fight with a average joe of similar size? Maybe the average joe played a bit of sport but was not fight trained?

How easy would the boxer win?

The average joe would through relentless haymakers and if they played sports they most likely have pretty good stamina for an average joe.

The amateur boxer would have pretty good stamina and sparring experience. It all comes down to how well the amateur boxer can counter punch and slip punches. If the amateur boxer can't then he better have his hands up because he's taking alot of Haymakers...all to the face.

Considering if the amateur boxer can do what I said they should be able to do (which they should) then I see it as an pretty easy win for the amateur who counters the average joe multiple times and bloodies his nose/breaks jaw and/or ribs. The amateur will take a few haymakers to the head but they will be sloppy so they brush off.

Boxer vs new guy at a boxing gym or boxer vs some guy on the street?

Someone participating in boxing training doesn't make that person a fighter. There's always guys that participate in various martial arts that end up getting their heads kicked in outside of their sport.

Having said that, it always comes down to the individual.

I've seen that. But not a boxer with 1 year training, but like 5-6-7 years or so.

The result was a one punch fight. One punch, and all is over. That's what I've seen, at least.

The boxer would certainly have the skills to finish an av jo quickly as long as he worked the ranges well but streetfighting is a different thing where elbows headbutting kicking and wrestling are all used. most of the time id pick a boxer to win in this scenareo but not always

Honestly, like Virus said, it comes down to the individual. This question is too hypothetical to answer with any accuracy.

However, I CAN say that I've heard guys that only have one year or less of boxing experience say things like "I wonder what I can do to the average guy" and my honest answer would be - "buddy you'll get your a$$ kicked".

My reason for saying that is, a year or a few months of boxing experience is really not enough to make anyone a supreme fighting machine. I could see these kids getting into a fight, assuming a boxing stance, putting their hands up and trying to box against a guy who's trying his best to knock his a$$ out and who is willing to eat a few punches in the process.

Sometimes the muscle memory and pace that they are accustomed to and calm technical movements can work against someone when they're facing someone who's not looking to go 3 rounds - they just want to knock your a$$ out as quickly as possible.

I mean, you tell me......picture the average kid at your gym who's only been around 1 year or a few months fighting a drunk hooligan who's had numerous street fights and looking to lay him out quickly. Tell me honestly how you picture this unfolding.

I honestly think the more a boxer has trained the less benefit it has in street fights... A lot of advanced techniques only work on trained boxers and under boxing rules.... So honestly if the guy is in decent shape and knows how to punch I think in theory you always have to make him the favorite... Assuming he is the same size as the other guy.

The longer the guy has trained = greater punching power and reflexes. Even the most feather fisted boxers could probably knock normal people out in 1 punch. I would pick Paulie Malignaggi (feather fisted boxer) over most guys within 20-30 pounds of him in a street fight.

Average joe who has never really fought and never taken a proper punch thrown with mean intentions? Most likely he gets destroyed.

Ive seen this in the gym with new guys just becoming totally defenseless once a bunch of punches are thrown at them. They dont know what to do dont know where to look and end up just standing there allowing the other guy to tee off on them. Naturally some percentage also fights back but without any form, power, accuracy or speed. They are also tired within seconds.

If average joe tries to box (which is likely) and has never fought before (like i began with) he gets wrecked 9/10 times by an amateur boxer (that regularly spars hard)

This is a good point I think a lot of people aren't thinking about.

The most awkward people I ever sparred against were people that had never had any kind of striking training. A boxer, after a bit of training, becomes at least somewhat predictable and will telegraph punches to a degree, whereas an untrained individual just throws their arms around attempting to knock you out.

I know the general view here is that some guy will throw a huge punch and a boxer will perfectly dodge said punch and break the guy's jaw, in reality this doesn't happen 99% of the time.

World challengers have been humiliated in street fights, so It's not as cut and dry as you'd like to make it out to be.

    No ref
    No ring
    No rules
    Anything goes

A Boxer SHOULD win. handily. But you put them in an environment where form goes out of the window and everything is turned upside down and it's not as easy for the Boxer as you'd think it would be!
