He said if he didn't have a back problem he would of won. That is being a sore loser.

You watch the first fight. He said he would of won if no back injury. He also still called Ali "clay" after he was punished.

Ali wasn't exactly gracious after losing to Frazier. He spent the next several years claiming it was a "white man's decision".

Maybe Patterson had a bad back.
Maybe Terrell got thumbed in the eye.

Yes, fighters do make excuses for losing.
Ali made excuses every time he lost. "I didn't train", "I thought I won" ... blah, blah, blah.
Maybe Ali didn't train. It's not exactly the gracious thing to say when someone whips you though.

You know nothing. Ali was gracious in defeat by saying fraizer was really strong and could of got me out of there.

He made the same excuse for losing to Frazier and Norton AND Spinks .... basically, "I didn't train".
With Frazier he actually retracted the admission that he'd LOST at all, and went around claiming he was the victim of a bad decision.

The guy was a sore loser with the biggest ego ever. He had what they call narcissistic personality. So in love with himself he couldn't accept anyone beat him fair. He never admitted he was beaten by a better man.
But this is not uncommon for a champion fighter !
Winners don't make good losers .

Horesh it. I don't give 2 fuks about what is written in newspapers. I remember clearly Ali giving a television interview, ( after the Frazier fight ) in which he said

" I lost. So what, in a few days time the newspapers will be writing about something that happens somewhere else in the world. This will be old news. "

And he also said " Joe beat me fair and square. " or words to that effect.

Ali also claimed to have won the fight more often, spun the fact that Frazier was hospitalized after the fight and alibied that he was out of shape.

I have watched the first fight, Floyd Patterson says the same thing would have happened to him with or without a back injury. He knew that Ali was the best in the world then.

Yes, and then he went on television several times and said he lost only because he didn't train properly for Frazier .... and then he changed it again and he said on television that he actually won the fight because he landed more punches and was robbed.

You're right, we don't need to give a fuk about what's written in the newspapers since Ali was so prolific in running his mouth off in television interviews.

It's not that ironic considering that Tyson had already beaten a slew of Ali imitators.

Ali was an as shole back then. That might be part of the reason.

You are way off on both accounts. Earnie talked to me about what happened in the first round with Ali and in the ring showed me how he did it, the film doesn't confirm or deny what he claimed. Ali showed a mean streak in that bout and I think Earnie was telling the truth.

The Patterson comment was boxing illiterate. Incapacitated by the back injury Floyd would not have been critized for quitting but kept trying, he was a fighter. In the second bout Floyd looked remarkably good and I had him slightly ahead at the time of the cut stoppage. I think the bigger Ali would have prevailed but it was nice seeing Floyd land the head to body combinations.
