Why not? You think that a 50 year old Bernard Hopkins was a better fighter/bigger challenge than Joe Louis?
Louis looks fantastic on film, and would without a doubt be the best fighter Kovalev has faced. On the other hand, Kovalev wouldn't be close to the best fighter Louis faced. Schmeling, Walcott, Sharkey, and Baer were all much more dangerous than him. Conn and Lewis were better LHW's as well. I can't actually believe I'm arguing with someone about whether Joe Louis is a better fighter than Jean Pascal and a 50 year old Bernard Hopkins.
If we are talking the very best Louis say the Louis that KOed Lewis or Buddy Baer the fight does not last past the first round.
Hope you realize what a feared puncher Galento was during that time. The best Louis would KO Kovalev very quickly. He could not take the type power Louis had in both fists.
To see what would be the result of a Joe Louis vs Kovalev fight, go no further than what happened to John Henry Lewis in 1939. Louis flattened the great LH John Henry Lewis in one round. BOMBS AWAY... P.S. Don't bring up the great LH Billy Conn. Billy was one of the greatest light heavyweights ever who lasted til the 13th round because mainly on his great speed and agility to avoid Louis's lethal blows. Kovalev who I think belongs with most any LH, is slow enough for the 20 pound heavier Louis to hit and destroy pronto...
2 of 3 beat a toothless version of the tiger. All 3 had highlights that exceeded beating a 50 year old Hopkins.
Kovalev, along with GGG, is my favorite fighter of today....but in fighting perhaps the greatest heavyweight of all time, he'd get killed.
Did you overindulge on something at that well known Caxap AYCE joint or something? You're off your seed today BE.
That is simple. You see it written on lorries ( trucks to Muricans ) everyday. It's getting sh!t from where they produce it to where it is sold. In other words a posh description of transport companies. Hardly rocket science.:good By the way Kov loses to a prime Joe Louis, and quickly. Quicker in fact than it takes most drivers to get in or out of their lorries / trucks.
Well I don't see what Kovalev brings to the table that Louis hasn't seen before. Power? In comparison to Baer and Schmeling? Boxing skills? In comparison to Conn,Charles and Walcott? There's also the fact that Louis is bigger, has better all round skills and more power. He wins this inside 5 rounds.
All those stats are completely meaningless. He a lt hwt who has never really had his heart or chin tested in the ring in with perhaps the most devastating puncher in hwt history. Louis was quick with one punch ko power in either fist. No one on these boards has ever seen the level of quality in a hwt as they would see with Louis. Louis KO 1.
You'll bite? Of course I have. We know all about Bernard's skills, and how savvy he is/was etc. But Kovalev fought a 50 YEAR old version of Bernard who shouldn't have been anywhere near a ring. Have you seen Bernard's recent fights? I'm assuming that this thread is talking about a prime version of Joe Louis here. A 50 year old version of Bernard was not a better fighter than a prime Joe Louis. A prime Joe Louis would have presented Kovalev with a far greater challenge.
