Didn't Paddy Fitzpatrick also work with Roach? He is absolutely useless so I don't think working with Roach automatically makes you a good trainer.

He isn't wealthy like most other established ex world champions from this country.

    Retire.

He over-achieved in the first place! Now he's looking like the mediocre fighter he always was MINUS the ambition to succeed.

could this be the 2nd biggest problem with ricky? the fact that he now has to fight for the paydays rather than doing it for the love of it? i think the biggest problem is he looks mentally shot rather than physically shot.

He's tough as nails but just doesn't have the speed or shots to be among the elite. Prove me wrong but that's my take.

    Very well could be.

If that's the case, he should take up working full time in the sports shop he did part time in and see how far he gets on that kind of wage compared to his wages from Boxing. He'd soon liven up, IMO.

I think Ricky is mentally scared of what's coming at him (punches) and physically afraid of taking them.

boxing crazy you couldnt be more wrong the guy lives and breaths boxing, to say he isnt doing it for the love of it shows u dont know him at all. Money is obv in the picture too why would he retire now? What would he do? Few more fights few more pay days see where it takes him a think theirs some good domestics to be made, retire now and in a year or 2 regret it forever

im not saying he still doesn't love boxing but the mind set is different when you are preparing for a fight just because you love it rather than knowing its the only way he knows how to make good money.

its the same for any sports person if you ask them 95% of them will tell you it isn't a job but because they love doing it not because they have to do it ie becomes a job rather than a sport then the fun and enthusiasm can leave pretty quickly.

Ricky's post fight interview with iFL said it all for me. When asked if he had world title aspirations he just said he wanted to be busy fighting. If his heart was truly in it he would have been sitting up in his seat when that was suggested but just seems that he is in it for the money now which is understandable.

He'll carry on fighting glorified journeymen on Northern undercards until he is used as a name for Campbell. He's looking for one big pay day and then that will be that.

Shame really as if he was properly gee'd up he could be sweeping up domestically and earning a few decent purses.

You may have taken what Ricky said out of context, he doesnt big himself up in interviews or at all.

Any fighter of course strives to become a world champion, Ricky has already achieved this so he just want to be fighting and if the opportunity arises he will take it, which is what happened when he won in the first instance.

Saying that he did look very poor in his last performance but if he does have proper mindset he can still achive good things, maybe not a world title but enough to earn him a good few quid.

Dangerous game to be in if you're not mentally on it.

Nelson done his best to be fair.

At least he didn't have ricky standing in front of a midget all night slugging it out.

He actually made Ricky look like a boxer.
