The Sad part is that many have forgotten the nice run Martinez had at Middleweight

What belt did Sturm "drop" in 2013?
He paid the WBA to elevate him to Super champ and lost that WBA Super title to Daniel Geale in 2012.
Geale was stripped of that title when he didn't want to defend against the mandatory...Golovkin.(notice a pattern here?)
The WBA elevated GGG from WBA regular to WBA Super champ in 2014
Felix Sturm didn't even have a belt in 2013 until Dec when Darren Barker's old man hip snapped and Sturm got that IBF belt back.

Of course you won't connect these dots. You'll just keep getting sh*t wrong and screaming "MUH RESUME DOE!":rofl

As everybody else, Martinez "called Golovkin out" BUT NOT NOW.

You are a dirty hypocrite. When Golovkin fights people like Dzinziruk, Barker, Macklin and Murray, you call them bums, but when Martinez fights them, they are elite.

Once again, STFU and go f4ck yourself.

why on earth is GGG all over this thread? morons just let GGG have a career first, then we can judge, but right now Martinez career is one of great achievement, considering where he came from because he had the nut sack to take fights at whatever weight vs who ever, he wasnt a true middleweight, but thats where the opportunity was and he took it. Right now for all the pedigree GGG, has not done a dmn thing but draw 97,000 in his 1st PPV, so shut the fuke up.

His run was awesome. When he was at the top there was no question who the real champion was. And he did it in style. He basically cleaned the division out before his climax with the Chavez fight.

Macklin and Barker have never been considered top P4P fighters or elite, guys like Williams and Pavlik certainly were though. And considering Martinez did was doing this in his 3rd division is all the more impressive.

My first comment in this thread is that MW has been overrated for a while, the last two true MW Champions were natural WW's in Martinez and Cotto even still they've taken on better comp than career MW GGG.

He had a short reign, but "Maravilla" was the Middleweight king for a time. I'll never forget the man that got me into boxing. Sergio and Paul Williams I. I came home from work late one night, and the fight was about to start. What a f*cking show!

Strum is one of the few guys who actually did duck GGG, but Strum isn't a elite fighter just a German hypejob trying to skate by. And the fact remains GGG was not a real MW Champion by your timeline til last year.
Didn't win a title in the ring til this year, your arguing semantics I'm on the root of the matter.

Basic points of contention Martinez has fought P4P fighters GGG has not

GGG was never a real Champ til like last year.

Didn't win a title in the ring til this year.

And his resume doesn't make him more deserving of a title shot then guys who actually got title shots instead.

Martinez was legitimately ducked in 2 different divisions and did what he had to do to be considered a P4P fighter. Golovkin is claiming to be ducked but turns def when a guy says his name.

I agree about Williams Martinez 1. Martinez won the first 5rds against kelly
Kelly won 3 then proceeded to get bombed on

Golovkin was interimchamp since 2010 because chicken Sturm who had the WBA belt at that time was afraid to fight him.
Sturm paid the WBA to make him the superchamp to avoid Golovkin
    It's a documented duck.

Williams was not really a natural middleweight and Pavlik was a great win but not elite.

And a guy like Murray who was chanceless vs Golovkin, knocked him down and was close to beat Martinez 2 years before.

Macklin gave Martinez some problems too

Martinez was very good @160 but not as dominant as Golovkin is at the moment.

An intriem title is not a real title, I don't know about you but I don't consider Robert Guerrero a 5 division World Champ for winning 3 Intriem Title's.

Here's the thing though I understand that because I'm critical of Gennandy people will automatically assume your just a hater but that is far from the case.

My whole thing is this what happened to the standards we as fans have for what is considered great, I remember when you had to prove yourself consistently over top level opposition to be considered great.

Nowadays you don't even have to beat a good fighter, you can beat up C-level guys and get that praise.

When your asking who is the better Champ I considered this, Martinez's wins over Williams,Pavlik. & Chavez Jr are better than anything on GGGs resume. Wins over Mscklin,Barker etc are on par with GGGs best wins, and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who considers Sergio an ATG but somehow Golovkin is.

    Make that make since.

As far as who's more dominate styles make fight's Pac beat Hatton and Hoya better but Mayweather was a more dominant WW and beat Pac handily. Martinez is dominating better fighters in his 3rd division.

    Martinez was the man!

Heavy underdog vs Pavlik, he turned that fight around and almost stopped him.

Beat williams the first time and was robbed, one of the KO's of the decade in the rematch 💯.

Destroyed Dzindruk who was number 1 rated 154.

Gave up weight against natural 160 guys Macklin & Barker.

Gave a boxing lesson to a 220+ JCCJR (slight exaggeration).

And whoever was moaning about the Willians rematch being a catch weight - that was Williams idea. He said it had to be a catch weight, even though the first fight was 160 - http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=5597500.

He knew his knee was completely shot but still decided to con the fans out of their hard earned money with Cotto PPV.
    Disgraceful.

Great fighter and a 1st ballot HOF'er IMO. Sad to see how his career ended, but I have fond memories of him especially at 154 lbs. He could've been FLoyd's toughest challenge out of anyone from JMW and below.
