Oscar to Floyd: Boxing is better off without you

Boxing Hall of Famer Oscar de la Hoya has written a scathing open letter to recently retired P4P king Floyd Mayweather appearing in the December 2015 issue of Playboy Magazine.

    Some highlights:

“…Truth be told, I’m not unhappy to see you retire. Neither are a lot of boxing fans. Scratch that. MOST boxing fans. Why? Because the fight game will be a better one without you in it. Let’s face it: You were boring.”

“…Another reason boxing is better off without you: You were afraid. Afraid of taking chances. Afraid of risk.”

“…You’ll be remembered as the guy who made the most money. As for your fights? We’ve already forgotten them.”

“…You have a lot of time and, at the moment, a lot of money. Maybe you’ll put your true skills to work and open a used-car dealership or run a circus. Or maybe you’ll wind up back on Dancing With the Stars. It’s a job that’s safe, pays well and lets you run around on stage. Something you’ve been doing for most of your career.”

He also lost most of those fights. Im sorry losing doesn't make you great wining does. He ran from Tito like a scaled dog in their fight, he will always be remembered for it.:deal

It's extremely petty and childish. Oscar is supposed to be a businessman not a "fan". Makes me wonder about the state of Oscar's mind. Seems like Mayweather has a hook in it to me.

I have no idea why #38 who has the biggest fight of the year for GBP is even commenting about PBF? He should be putting his efforts into Cotto-Canelo instead of being obsessed by PBF. Just shows you how much PBF owns him and how bitter he is about it.:yep

For real. If Alvarez loses, which I suspect he will, Oscar is going to be up a creek without a paddle. He should be focusing all his energy in this upcoming fight instead of getting into a spitting contest with Mayweather. Really, what is the point? Does he think he is going to hurt Mayweather's feelings?

Always predicting him to lose saying he has the blueprint hires his dad to teach him how to fight like him. He clearly is obsessed and hasn't gotten over that loss it really deeply effected him more than any other. Not to mention why even bring PBF up when you have the biggest fight of the year for your company right around the corner.

This. Oscar sounds salty to me. Floyd made that record payday without having to give Oscar anything. Oscar needs to let it go.

No, PBF loves **** like this. He knows he's gotten under Oscar's skin and that he's still in his head. The letter that he submitted is a sign of defeat but he's too stupid to realize it.:deal

Bit of a bitter note from Oscar but to be fair I've got to agree with the majority of what he said

Floyds legacy and you can already see his influence on different fighters is to do the bare minimum for the most money .. Rather then fight the best of the best there's always gotta be some sort of catch weight .. Or waiting for someone's peak to go ... Gifted but too cautious will be how I remember him

I don't really care who's ass owned whose, but I have a hard time disagreeing with most of what Oscar said. I admire Mayweather's skill as much as anyone, but his safety first approach, stack the deck before the fight even starts philosophy is a huge turn off for me. I mean dragging JMM up two weight divisions to fight him, wtf is that all about? Fighting Berto as his 2nd to last fight? (no he's not retired yet) pathetic.

This just goes to show, ODLH never recovered after Floyd. Floyd still owns him mentally, ODLH is just reaching out to his master, he misses lil Floyd. Cute letter Oscar.

Oscar should show all the revenue his company made off of Floyd over the years!

JMM called PBF out he wanted the fight because #48 wouldn't give him a rematch, how quickly you forget.:deal You can't expect PBF to move down to 135 after a long layoff can you? Fighting Berto after coming off the biggest fight of this era is not a big deal I only bashed it because it was on PPV and should have been on free TV.
