Agreed. Whyte is likeable but more so in contrast to the carefully packaged reinvention of FakeJ. Surprised the fight was made and can only suggest that Eddie underestimated Whyte and regrets it now. Both will have good careers and we will see if AJ is made of anything other than vitamins and press releases.
Should be a good fight. Unless we get another Smith-Fielding, we will learn a lot about both guys and how they will progress in the near future. As for not wanting AJ to win due to the hype; that's hardly AJ's fault. It's his promoters job to hype and casuals and gullible hardcore fans will lap it up. No need to dislike or wish bad on AJ for it, in my opinion, anyway.
I went and checked some videos of whyte after reading this thread. you're right I like him a lot more now. That being said he looks limited by what he's showed the last few performances, I think AJ will smash him early
Love the fact that Whyte has joined Kronk in Detroit and now Wlads camp in Austria great and serious preperation for Joshua.
Funny thing is that AJ didn't want the fight and that was when Whyte was trained by Chris Okoh. He reluctantly signed and then found out that Whyte was training with Banks and Wlad in Austria. Trust me, AJ doesn't want this and I wouldn't rule out an injury. Rumour is this is why it hasn't been confirmed as PPV yet as Eddie is worried AJ will pull out and he can't afford another embarrassment with Sky and Adam Smith.
You only have to look at FJ's body language in the pressers and head to heads to know he didn't really fight the fight. It's not the usual relax ''I'm so humble and cool'' FJ that you usually see. He was ultra quiet when mocked by Dillian and was the first to turn away when head to head while dillian carried on staring. Compare to how he was when he was gearing up to face Kingpin, any trash talk that Johnson brought to the table was laughed off. FJ ain't laughing now and his fanboys believe it will be a breeze as if all his opponents are going to be on the same level as a Cornish. Well come fight night, Dec 13th their going to know what's going down and then they won't be any where to be seen. Saying that I will give full credit to FJ if he blasts dillian out, because it would be the first live opponent that he'd have beat. But I'm not going to get on my knees and believe he is some invincible monster because he knocked out defenceless bums.
You're right about the body language. The taxpayer funded sports psychologists at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield must be slipping. AJ isn't handling the build up to the fight well at all. He looks nervous and clearly doesn't want it. McCracken will have to get him fired up and the psychologists will have to make him believe again.
Dillian confirmed it after speaking with Hearns FJ's argument was that the fight wouldn't sell basically
I'd instinctively view that more as Whyte playing mind games, but we'll see come the 12th! Good to see heavyweight boxing attracting some interest domestically again imo
So AJ's opponent, who has the most to gain by belittling AJ, confirmed it? Oh, ok. It must be true then. People read to much into the pre fight build up. Over the years i have seen guys look ultra confident and go on to lose and others look subdued and go on to win. It rarely plays a part in the outcome to a fight. Obviously, there is the odd time -some of Tyson's opponents losing the fight at the weigh in - but these times are rare. How many times do you ever hear anyone reference the press conference/weigh in as the tipping point of the fight during a post fight ****ysis? Other than mentioning any cross words or daft shenanigans that may have gone on beforehand, people rarely say a guy lost the fight in the build up with any degree of certainty or confidence.
If AJ was laughing it all off then I would agree with you. The point is that AJ has been very different in the build up to this fight. If psychological advantage isn't important then why is AJ spending so much time with a sports psychologist? You can tell he has been taught how to frame the past especially with his claims that he slipped in the amateurs etc. Team GB was all about the psychology and AJ is stil in the same camp with the same mindset.
