I like Shane McGuigan. For a young coach he seems to talk a lot of sense but watching him yesterday he said something I had never heard. My initial thought I'd that he is using some pseudo scientific garbage to back up his point but......perhaps I am wrong In referring to Quigg Martinez (IFL interview) he said once a fighter has been knocked out they are more likely to be knocked out in the future due to damage on the nerve endings in the jaw. Talked bout this being evidenced by neurological experts. Anyone heard similar? Can think of many fighters that don't look the same after a KO but many more that look just as good and strong - assume more psychological than neurological.
It's true. You can have the ultimate granite chin. But once you get knocked out, it's been chipped away at. So next time it still might be 95% granite, but you've lost something and sooner or later the blows that you would have eaten for breakfast are the ones that put your lights out.
With big gloves on he certainly has been knocked out, i know what Quigg was getting at in the presser.
sparring then, depends on when and who (in terms of weight), years ago against a welterweight I wouldn't put much in it Tbh with sparring its when you try out new things so don't think it's that important if you've been dropped in it
i heard a story that frampton was ko'd in sparring at billy nelsons gym a while back but i really can't remember who he was sparring? may have been ricky burns but it was a while ago and really wouldn't like to say for definite.
