I'm not aware of the details regarding the contract between Cotto and Canelo but I suspect Cotto, being the "A" side in this equation, has a rematch clause in case he loses. So, if Canelo wins, and Cotto has the option for an immediate rematch, the WBC will just end up having to strip Canelo too. Win or lose, Bumlovkin is deinied his big fight but gets to collect a worthless WBC strap as a consolation prize. Looks to me like the WBC is backing the wrong horse in this race. Their actions here just don't make any good business sense. Especially considering that the possibility of a Mayweather Cotto rematch still exists...

Like someone said on a different thread, maybe Cotto didn't pay the sanctioning fees. It doesn't make sense that Cotto paid the sanctioning fees and then the WBC stripped him.

    Indeed Cotto got stripped...

    No sanction fees?
    No mandatory WADA drugtesting?

    end result is still either

A - canelo holds belt hostage from ggg after this
B- ggg fights c level bum for vacant title and nobody gives a damn except his superfanboys who have a hard on for the title

    WBC's stance
If Canelo wins (wich I think he does) he has to comply to fighting Golovkin or be stripped.
If Cotto wins, he will remain stripped and Golovkin will be elevated to full champion

WBC shouldn't be thinking what's good business for them but I guess that's just the way things are.

Some people think that even if Canelo wins the title and refuses to play ball and face his mandatory, WBC will not strip him. That's a possiblity though it would show the joke state that this sport is in, that's for sure.

You can call it meaningless or whatever but at least the belt will be free of those who have no interest in facing the best in their division at the proper weight limit.

There is no rematch clause. Canelo wanted one and Cotto didn't.

    Same thing happened with Martinez.

Golovkin will get the belts but he won't get the championship, not unless he faces the winner.

Jones unified WBC, WBA, IBF and never was LHW champion, this is the same thing.

Which is what they've repeated probably 1,000 flipping times the last few months.
