wouldn't a mw belt greatly improve his chances of getting that rematch?

Cotto just doesn't have much hope that he will beat Canelo. Why pay 300k then ?

200-300k...i mean...cotto is making a ton of money for this....but still why drop it to the wbc when you can pay training costs or something with that money

I was speaking figuratively not literally. I don't like ban bets. What's the point? Besides, you are a pretty good poster and I wouldn't want to see you leave the board that long for something silly like a ban bet. You will get to tell me "I told you so." if you are right but I think Oscar and Alvarez have enough sway over the WBC to do pretty much whatever they want. Oscar is already talking about not fighting Golovkin in their next fight if Alvarez wins.

ok great...so hes handed the belt and then defends it against johnson or heiland....woohoooOoo!!!

again...making ggg vs the winner of jacobs/quillin is no easy task and who knows if theres any interest from haymon on that......and even in that scenario you have one guy pretty much eliminated from that....same with saunders/lee......so basically youve named two guys and eubank lol.....and one of the guys may be impossible to make a fight with.....whoa! look at all the options....then you are depending on guys moving up....like andrade or lara.....which is fine.....but thats an "if"......there isnt much appetizing with ggg sitting there fighting the mw division.....

yeah lee has been hot and scored some nice come from behind wins....but aside from that he was getting outboxed rather easily.....lee is prob the one fight id wanna see if he beats saunders......

Lol, so Cotto refused to pay sanctioning fee but payed 800K to GGG to step aside....

If he knew he was going to get stripped or drop the belt then why pay 800K in the first place? Unless he had intention to fight GGG maybe???

Seems like Cotto took a L.

Cotto didn't want to pay $300,000 dollars to the alphabet org that you all criticized as bogus along with the other titles.

So, why did he pay to GGG to step aside then ? He could have just dropped the belt and fight Canelo without having to pay Golovkin.

Cotto just doesn't believe in himself. Canelo as limited as he is, is still not crippled Martinez or dehydrated unmotivated Geale.

He paid GG step aside money becaue he knew that he would make millions more against Canelo. Cotto isn't the first or last to do this. Stripping a man of his title over sanctioning fees is despicable.

but why didn't he just drop the belt over the summer then. that way he didn't have to pay sanctioning fee or a step aside. he just would've dropped it immediately after Geal, GGG elevated to full champ, and Cotto goes on to face Canelo with 1.1 million dollars saved.

Cotto didn't vacate his title. He was stripped. And many of you have implicated GG's name into this convo. We haven't even gotten to a winner of this fight and Cotto is ducking GG, lmao. Foh.

Nobody has negotiated a fight with GG yet. GG is the mandatory and you'll have to wait a couple of months before we get a decision. You "now" guys have debated this all day, and your comments are hilarious to read lmao.
