Overall, he is the second longest reigning heavyweight champion of all time and has the second most successful title defenses total of any heavyweight boxer with 23 (including his initial reign as a WBO champion), behind Joe Louis (25) and ahead of Larry Holmes (20) and Muhammad Ali (19) and tied on the all-time list for most heavyweight title fights with Louis, as they both have appeared in 27 heavyweight title fights.

And he has a lot of time ahead of him.

He will never reach that record because Tyson Fury will destroy him.

You're right he'll never get over knocking Fury's head clean off and seeing it roll out of the ring and onto Lampley's lap and he'll retire a depressed completely destroyed mess.

He'll easily beat Fury, Wilder and probably Povetkin rematch too but Ali and Louis are on an unreachable point.

    Louis?? no way.

Ali? his iconic status probably will give him an edge for a long time.

Yep he's also missing wife beating, cheating, parkinsons and treason for him to achieve ATG.

He probably is the greatest HW of all time but he won't be recognized as the GOAT.

Depends if people discount his knockout loss to Tyson Fury was because of age.

I think how Wlad will be viewed by history will largely be up to what the people he beats go on to do. All he can do at the moment is try beat Louis' record.

no great was pasted out by serial journeymen whilst prime. theres nothing great about his losses.

I'd class wlad as a hofer, and at best a fringe atg based only on longevity.

Not even top 10. When his best wins are a cruiserweight a 40 year old and a wild unskilled fat fella from Nigeria. He length of time as a belt holder will be mentioned but in the same breath how weak the quality of opposition was.

as a heavyweight, Wlads prime was in his mid 30s. not late 20s.

I was missing the old Herolgee. You got so reasonable for a bit, that I wondered who had hacked your account. (Or was it a toke of mellow green splif?)

The only fighter to spank Wlad from the get-go was Sanders. Wlad self-destructed against Brewster and Purrity by gassing. Losing against Sanders isn't a knock, given how studiously he was avoided by the other big names that were around at the time that he fought. At least Wlad fought him.

And he's not the only HW great with dodgy losses/performances.

Lewis has Rahman and McCall on his loss roster.
    Holmes lost to a LHW.
    Dempsey got stopped by Flynn.
    Bowe got trampled by Golota.

    Etc ...
