Half of that 70 million dollars goes to cable, which means 35 million is left for all the fighters on the card. Still may seem like a lot but keep in mind what Canelo and Cotto are asking for in purse AND what the split in PPV revenue is. I haven't heard exactly what the purse split is, all I know is from Kim's tweet and he said 1 million is the break even from "people who are involved in the industry". You can take it however you want. Oscar says he is hoping for 2 million PPV buys, so he has set his expectations high.
I'm starting to have second thoughts as well, not because of the Rousey PPV, but because HBO, Golden Boy et.al. have done such a thoroughly abhorrent job promoting it. I'm a boxing fanatic and I've been looking forward to this match for almost two years yet even I'm underwhelmed by the build up.
I get the weird feeling that either Cotto pulls out at the last minute, or the whole card gets re-scheduled for a later date...!!!
That would surprise me a good deal. Has this ever happened with such a high profile fight on such short notice?
Not a fight of this magnitude, but Isidro Garcia was taken out of the crowd (literally wore other fighters shorts, shoes, and was given a mouth piece from the promoter) and he won the WBO Flyweight title, and Phil Jackson was scheduled to fight Frank Bruno back in 1996, and literally left the arena as his name was being announced into the ring....his team did not like the ring size...!!!
Boxing fans didn't buy Rousey Holm. And Anything over 600k for either guy is good because without Mayweathers name attached to either, neither ever did over 600k you ****en hump.
Hang on wasn't ESB saying the Mayweather v cotto numbers and Mayweather v Canelo numbers were down to Cotto and Canelo? If that really was the case according to ESB posters this fight should do great on ppv. I look forward to the backtracking.
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm not paying for this PPV. Will watch it a day or two later for free. Tired of the stupid stuff going on with this fight.
The promoters had too lofty expectations on this event and will regret giving these two diva's a high guaranteed purse. This has red ink written all over it. Also, this has been a horrible marketing event. Why GBP allowed Roc Nation to be the lead promoter in this has been a monumental blunder.I have never been so under whelmed by a supposed "Super Fight" ever.Roc Nation should stick to what it knows best-music(if that's what you want to call it).:tired
HBO themselves expect 700-800k. I don't think anyone involved truly expects 1m+. In my opinion anything over 500k is a success.
