Look at how much trouble Moorer had with just Bert Cooper, he would not withstand Tyson's blitzkrieg attack.
Big fan of Moorer, always found him a fascinating character, but Tyson was about as bad a match-up as could have ever been made for him. With Moorer being a proud guy who wouldn't have backed down, Tyson would almost certainly have finished it in 2 rounds.
Styles make fights, and Tyson had perfect style to beat Moorer. Keep in mind it was still good Tyson, not overweight drug addicted uninterested version of Mike with 1 round stamina from 2002-2005 1996 Tyson KO 3 Moorer
Honestly I think it's a first round KO. Moorer wasn't a runner so his only would be to jab then clinch but I think Tyson would punch with him and might only take one with Moorer. What was Mike's history with South paws?
Styles make fights. It's overused, sometimes cliché - but it applies here. Moorer's chin will let him down sooner or later. He doesn't have the movement to trouble Tyson. Tyson by early to mid rounds ko.
I wouldn't necessarily count Moorer out. I know some of you may think I'm mad but LBS for LBS I think Moorer and Tyson are very even. At this stage of they're careers neither were on top of they're game. I think Tyson at this time would still have a good shot of knocking Moorer out in the early rounds but should the fight go the distance I don't know.
I seriously doubt Moorer would survive to see the cards. He was stopped decisively by both foreman and holy who had each seen better days by the time he met them.. And Tyson's power and style would be a lethal combination for moorer's chin... I do however agree that an "easy" nights work should not be awarded to Tyson so readily though.. The year 1996 was a long way from 1988 and Tyson wasn't the same man anymore.. And while I've already acknowledged moorer's durability issues, I also feel they are overstated at times.. The man did after all survive the jump from 175 to 200 and captured the lineal title. Along the way his whiskers stood up to the artillery of James smith, Bert cooer, Alex Stewart and a few others to win those fights.. His power and southpaw stance might also make things interesting for Tyson.. This is one of those question mark fights that we missed out on back in what was already an incredible era...
Tyson knocks Moorer out and easy. Please watch the first punch Tyson threw in the first round of the first Holyfield fight, now picture that on Moorers fragile chin. Moorer is one of those early ko victims Tyson made his reputation on. The Tyson of 96 was nowhere near what he once was but he was still better than 95% of the guys out there. I seriously cant see how Moorer would trouble Tyson. He had no clear size advantage, had a suspect jaw and was flat footed and occasionally seemed like he was just going through the motions. Obviously Atlas being in Moores corner would spicen things up.
