No other HW champion has unjustly earned as much raw hatred and universal contempt from boxing fans as has the Massachusetts/PR Warrior.

After rebounding from what should have been a career-ending (and possibly even life-threatening) KO at the hands of one of HW history's hardest pure punchers, he goes on to become a two-time WBA HW champion with what were very limited physical and athletic strengths but with a lot of heart and underrated boxing ability.

    He holds legit wins vs:

    1. Holyfield
    2. Golota
    3. Tucker
    4. McCline
    5. Oquendo (one of the best fighters never to win a HW belt, robbed vs Chagaev, Holyfield, Toney)
    6. Rahman
    7. Johnson

Furthermore, let us not forget that

    1. PED cheat Toney eeked out a razor-thin decision, which was later reversed to NC on account of his shameful actions
    2. Was robbed twice vs Valuev in Germany
    3. During his farewell fight, he gave a game effort against a fighter that held every conceivable physical advantage over him. A prime Ruiz TKOS Haye in the 10th.

How does the boxing world reflect upon this champion's career/status?

A decent fighter but ugly to watch. Couldn't have helped his popularity.

Not as good as Haye. Prime Haye beats prime Ruiz

Wasn't much of a boxer and even less than a fighter, but sometime he just knew what it would take to win and pulled it off. Winning ugly is what I believe defines him.

That's the key word here, HOLD. Hold, jab n' grab, fall in behind the jab and hug, hold...... it was just unwatchable. It was somewhat effective but not much of skillset. 12 rounds of it made you want to throw a brick through your TV. He was always complaining when decisions didn't go his way too, carried himself like a big baby.

Many feel Golota was robbed against him. That was a past prime Golota as well.

Ruiz made the most of his limited skills. He was tough, he was strong, he could clinch and club. Always an ugly fight with him. Had pretty good chin. Take away the Tua blitz and I don't think anyone else stopped him until final fight with Haye.
Awful to watch but had decent career.

Ruiz as a boxer was a great actor. He deserved an Oscar for his performance against Kirk Johnson. Every time Kirk threw a body shot Ruiz cried FOUL!!! & the most biased ref EVER Joe Cortez warned Johnson. Watch the fight like we did , We put the "low blows" in slow motion only TWO were actually low.. The final blow that really was a KO punch had Ruiz doing his Oscar performance again & his Uncle Joe DQ'd Johnson
Not only did Ruiz & Cortez rob Kirk of a title win they basically ruined his career, Kirk lost interest & was only a shell of himself afterwards

the guy was really good. he understood that if you dont have the athletic advantages of speed, power, reflexes.......you need to use something else: Your head.
he knew he couldnt allow himself to get into a rhythem with other more talented fighters.
so he stepped out of the box and fought with a broken rhythem. he was either a little too close or too far away from his opponent.....you know, never in the space where the slick boxers or big punchers operate.

and while the opponents tried to find their groove to set him up for combos.....ruiz hit them with awkward and ugly punches. but in the end, he made them fight his fight. and he won.

so yeah, he was some fighter.

His fight against Golota made me homicidal. If it wasn't for Norman, he would be plain unwatchable.

Toney won in a landslide. It wasn't close at all.

    Don Kings pawn.

    Terrible fighter.

Why would Roy go up then immediately come back down unless he was fighting a bum.

Don't give a ****e if he was a nice guy, this is a results business.

Like him or hate him, he beat some legit champs during a much tougher era and would beat 99% of the heavyweights today.
