Allowed by same rules that crown the "lineal champion".

The thing is that term "the champion" is not the same as "the lineal champion".

There are no specific formal rules about the details of the "lineal" title, there are no obligations for defending that "title" and probably the most important of all, that "title" doesn't even literally exist.

Retired or not, Mayweather is still the biggest draw in the sport - which is why I brought him up.

Bumlovkin is NOT a draw. Dudes who can only sell 97k PPVs don't figure into being part of one of the biggest fights in boxing..

The WBC title didn't literally exist before 1963 so what's your point?

I have ranked Miguel Cotto at 154, since he fought (Geale) at 153.5 that clearly is a fact. It does not matter the fact he fought for an ABC title, that should have no relevance in an independent ranking, you are ranked at your weight not at your opponents weight. An ABC title on the line should not form the basis of any arguement.

The Cotto-Canelo fight should be for the vacant 154 lineal position, as they were both at 154 pre the fight and surely the 1 v 2 with FM gone, and if you want to argue about 1 pound then almost everyone is assigned to the wrong division.

The contract weight for Cotto Geale was 157lbs. That is a middleweight fight.

You are ranked in the weightclass in which you compete. Cotto's last four fights were in the middleweight division. Cotto should ranked @ middleweight.

Except for the fact that Cotto Canelo was NOT contested in the jr middleweight division..

So you are trying to change the reality of the situation and assign a different set of rules than the ones that have been in practice and are currently being used?

Yes, as opposed to the WBC title, say?

I don't really understand what it is you are saying, that aside.

    Cotto fought his last 9 fights @ 153.5 // 153.5 // 155 // 153.25 // 153.75 // 154 // 152.5 // 153.5 // 145

Do you still want to rate him at Middleweight???

The Lineage situation whatever is certainly not definitive to me. I agree Cotto won it, but the fact that his fights since have been manufactured at the lower weight class makes it vacant to me. I agree it is a mess though.

I get it people like GGG and are mad at the catchweights but the Legitimate Champ is currently Canelo.

GGG doesn't have a win as good as Cotto over Martinez to win the title nor Canelo over Cotto yesterday.

If were going off who beat Legitimate fighters and not who just looks good its clear.

GGG wins against Murray and Lemieux are much better than wins against a crippled Martinez or a close win against a midget at 155.

Why stop at the weigh in weights? What did he weigh on fight night? If we are going to assign rules to suit ourselves, why not go there? Canelo was a LHW. Cotto was a MW.

Does a lineal fight have to be sanction by an ABC?

Does a lineal fight have to be over 12 rounds?

Does a lineal fight have to be inside the weight class? There are lots of fights made two or more pounds outside.

What happens if a lineal holder at SM loses a fight to someone at 170 pounds, does he keep his lineal 168 crown?

The weigh ins are what count, that's why.

Murray lost to Martinez so no its not better than Cotto beating him, and Lemieux has never fought or beaten a world class fighter ever so it's not better than Canelo over Cotto.

A competitive fight vs an elite opponent is worth more than a blowout of a journeyman.

Wrong. It isn’t what weight you weigh in at the weigh-in, it’s what weight class the weight limit is for that fight.
