Was I the only person that thought Barry was terrible in the Canelo vs cotton fight last night? I usually think he is a pretty decent commentator but last night he really let himself down with all the praise for Miguel Cotto!! I am as big a Cotto fan as anyone and would have loved him to get the win over Canelo but imo he was never in the fight! Sure Cotto was busy during some of the earlier rounds but Canelo was blocking 95% of those flurries and catching Cotto with the more solid shots. At the end Barry stated that he had it by 2 rounds to Canelo! The actual scorecards were a fairer reflection on the actual bout. Was Barry was letting his heart score the bout at times for Cotto or was he just trying to make it sound better to casual fans?
He is awful. People moan about Watt etc, he is far, far worse. Just adds to how amateur the BN coverage is.
I agree with you quite like him normally but he was really biased towards cotto. There were a couple of rounds where you could make a case for cotto winning them but generally the best and more telling punches of every round came from canelo
9 times out of 10 my card looks quite similar to his, but not on that fight. Although he did have Canelo winning by the end. I usually enjoy him though, guess different people like seeing different things
Yeah, he was bad on saturday, eapecially early on. Like the OP mentioned, Jones completely missed Canelo blocking and avoiding Cotto's shots. He was also unnecessarily praising Cotto's movement. Cotto's movement was more about Canelo's slow feet and inability to cut the ring off rather than great defensive footwork on Cotto's part.
barry had it spot on imo, miguel cotto controlled the ring with lateral movement in the first six rounds. canelo alverez overpowered him at the end but it was no more than two points in it tbh and you could see that miguel cotto thought it was closer.
Only decent uk commentator I actually don't mind hearing is Ritchie Woodall can't stand any of the BN lot and the sky ones are about as bad as the sky football lot!
Spot on. Cotto exposed yet again just how terribly limited Alvarez is. I thought Barry Jones had it right. The scorecards were an insult, and it's obvious that Alvarez is going to have to take an absolute beating to lose any type of points decision. This guy is in the record books as having only lost a majority decision to Floyd Mayweather. Say no more.
