Lewis vs Vitali. Was there ever a bigger demand for a re-match in the past 20 years?

Have never quite got how a fighter leading 4-2 after 6 rounds means anything?

At the time of the ending Lewis looked the stronger fighter and the cards after 6 are irrelevant.

I mean if a fighter is ahead after 6 and gets knocked out in the 7th we don't look at the cards to discredit the winner by KO

Operative word being "almost" and if you think 37 is prime, you know **** about any sports, never mind just boxing.

But if you want to go down that path, then I guess your boy Tyson was prime when Lewis beat him, as he was even younger.

Lennox came into that fight heavy. I'm not sure his exact weight but he was heavier than his norm. I'm not sure if he could have gone 12 rounds without dropping from exhaustion.

Yes, but since the fight ended after 6 what is the relevancy of whether or not he could have gone 12 rounds. Both looked pretty tired after 6.

There may very well have been a number of times Tyson wouldn't have lasted 12 rounds near the end of his career but if he blasted a fighter out in 3-4 rounds who cares or who would even know if he could have lasted 12 rounds?

The fact of the matter is it probably when at least 2 more rounds than it should have.

Both Lennox Mum & his lovely wife , both named Violet incidently, had been badgering him to retire for ages. That was exactly the right time to retire. He had nothing left to prove, he'd beaten everyone he faced in the pro ring there was no one else worthy Ike Ibeabuchi was otherwise detained & Wlad had gone into hiding. There is one one more accolade Lennox deserves
    " Arise Sir Lennox "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True. Those gashes were hideous. Looked like somebody took a cheese grater to Vitali's face!

Lennox only trained lightly for a warm up with Kirk Johnson , who we knew wasn't in top shape himself. Kirk's love for the game ended when John Ruiz acting & Cortez corruption robbed him of a title. Lennox would have KO"d Vitali within 2 rounds without the cut. Don't you remember that Lennox uppercut that nearly decapitated Vital?? He was prime for the KO

I think a rematch would have favoured Lewis if he got into say Rahman II shape but I can understand why he chose to retire...

It's hard to fight young, rising stars while you're at the tail end of your career yourself...

This is basically how I see it, and would add that he had just become a father.

I wanted to see the rematch just like everyone else, and it did suck that Lewis held the belt hostage for ahwile. But you hit it on the head that he had every right and reason to retire. Lewis is a top five heavy, Vitali a top twenty, and that is all that there is to it.

Good, apparently you're educated (l'm a bit educated myself.)

so here's a little exercise for you.

Tell me how many of Ali's wins were as a result of tko stoppages on cuts? And what was the public reaction to his winning in that manner?

This is exactly how it is. And l've never seen a group of fans so delusional that they still question a legitimate result 12 years later. Hell most of them were likely children when this fight took place.
