People seem to be obsessed with racism in this country. Apparently, that obsession has made its way to business.

An example is Roc Nation's investment in Rigo. People don't care what race Rigo is. History is rife with examples of athletes from various different backgrounds that have been enormously popular based on their talent and style.

Pacquaio is an excellent example of how a little known boxer with no amateur background can become incredibly successful, far beyond anyone's expectations.

The thing is, guys like Pacquaio fight to entertain by attempting to dominate their opponent. In order to entertain, you have to take risks. If you don't take risks, you don't get a high risk premium.

It's like anything in life. If you invest in a leveraged equity for example, you are taking on substantial risk in the hope of making an amazing return. This is why people invest in junk bonds and various other assets in an attempt to strike it big.

Ward and Rigo being unpopular have NOTHING to do with their race. They can talk about how certain categories are underappreciated all they want, but the MARKET RESPONSE is the true barometer of their success.

People need to stop acting as if they are owed something. Nobody is owed anything in life. If you want to make money, you have to take on risks, just like all the great fighters in the past did. Even Mayweather took on risks by gambling with his soul instead of his body.

Roc Nation is going to learn some hard lessons. They should be smart enough not to get involved in this racial ****. They made a great investment with Cotto, but Ward and Rigo will likely prove to be bad investments.

Ward is actually young enough to change this, and if he fights Kovalev or Stevenson, it will obviously go a long way to providing an ROI for Roc Nation. The point is, people need to think of boxing as a business. Keep racial **** out of it.

Agreed. Ward wasted all of the momentum he had from winning the super six and Rigo keeps playing it safe every time he is televised. This is also true for Lara, who had the opportunity of lifetime when he fought Canelo and ran most of the fight.

What exactly are you rambling about?
Did Roc Nation ask you for a loan?

Its funny crawford who is blacker than black has no problem selling out omaha (with a mostly white crowd) and gaining fans all over the world.

    but nah, its racism

Pacquiao doesn't fight to entertain, he fights the best way he can: aggressive. If he's defensive he'll lose.

I would not describe Pac's style as aggressive. His "aggression" was just a product of being extremely active.

Wards popularity was way up after Dawson. He shot himself in the foot all by himself by not fighting

Rigo had a chance on Ppv for redemption. That was the worst fight I've ever seen

Roc Nation is not losing anything. This fight promotional thing is simply a legal business to launder dirty money. The investors are the ones losing money and paying the outrageous salaries.

Can't disagree. My point being, people claiming he took risks to entertain, I believe are wrong. I think he took risks in his fights because that's his best chance at winning.

You don't have a point. What you said is irrelevant. If Pacquaio, aka "Let's make a great fight for the fans," decided to fight defensively, he would have never become a PPV star, whether he was winning or not.

People pay for good matchups, which involve perceived risks, and people pay to see guys take risks in the ring in order to get knock outs.

That's how you make money in boxing.

Rigo and Ward can still make money; however, they would have to either fight to KO their opposition or take on much stiffer opposition.

The problem is when guys that don't take risks attempt to bargain with guys that do take risks, often today you see the guys that don't take risks want the majority of the pot, when in many cases, they don't deserve the majority of the pot.

This is not a very difficult concept. I'm not sure why you're having trouble wrapping your head around this. For a guy that's always talking about how business have Harvard MBA's to tell them what to do, you are clueless about business.

What do you think these Harvard MBAs learn in business school?

Are you serious? I'm having difficulty understanding? All I said was "Pacquiao doesn't take risks for the sake of entertainment, he takes risks because that plays into his strengths."

So tell me, what am I having difficulty understanding? Where did I disagree with your overall point?

I didn't even comment on the business end, just on the Pacquiao bit.

Crawford does well because he's from a small city that doesnt have much going on so he's a big deal there. Jermaine Taylor did this for years in Arkansas a small state and wilder does the same thing in Alabama a small state.:deal

Agreed on all accounts and it's not like Taylor set the house on fire vs Ouma and Spinks and Crawford didn't excite vs Beltran

I think Rigo just needs a guy who can compete with him. The hard part is finding this guy

As far as Ward, he just has to fight more

Wlad is a caucasian heavyweight world champ but he isn't as popular as he should be either.
