Why does everyone say Liston couldn't cut off the ring?

That's my point. Liston never learned to cut the ring. He would walk them down, hit them and knock them out but cutting the ring was never part of the equation.

I thought you did! I remember Dundee saying Liston followed Ali "ring around the rosie", or something similar.

Archie Moore never fought Liston though so he can't speak from first hand experience like Patterson.

Well, to my knowledge, he never fought Liston so he can't really say that speaking from first hand experience. Unless he saw all his fights. And I'm only referring to Prime Liston.

But tbf, I think Foreman was better at it. Ali was younger and faster for Liston, but Sonny did follow him in too straight lines.

Wrong again. Ali let chuvalo punch him to the body. He really toyed with chuvalo in the first fight.

Ali peed blood for days after his first bout with Chuvalo. George barreled inside and got to Ali numerous times especially to the body. It was not a question of Ali letting Chuvalo hit him.

In fight two Ali fought a different fight by constantly moving and doing everything he could do to avoid being caught on the ropes....clinching, spinning Chuvalo off the ropes etc.

I'm not calling you out but this is something people say that I can't source. The only guy who I've seen say it is Chuvalo himself. Ali was hurt but hell he fought like a couple of months later.

Torres said it commenting on the two Ali fights. In the book IN THIS CORNER, Dundee wrote this of the second Ali-Liston fight: "When Ali stopped, he'd stop. He was just following Ali. He was just following Ali around the ring now almost as a course of nature."

He watched him fight, the ability to cut the ring off isn't debateable like power of punch,it is self evident.
Angelo Dundee says the same thing on the video that you can't be bothered to watch ,but still argue against.
Liston did not possess that ability. If you believe otherwise , show an example on film of Sonny doing so.In return I'll show several examples in which he did not.
    Machen
    Ali
    Martin
    Are three obvious examples.

Don't get me wrong, I rate Sonny as an all time great, perhaps as high as #2, but I don't think he was particularly good at cutting down the ring. When training Foreman, Archie Moore called it "walking a man down".
