He's willing to move down to Welterweights, so why not Alvarez?. All fighters that made names for themselves took massive risks. Whether it was to fight high-end quality opposition too early(Vargas, Lomachenko, Mayweather...etc), moving down in weight or moving up. Golovkin turned down moving up for Froch so now he has no other option but this.
He's willing to move down for welterweights. Why not Alvarez? Please reread those two lines, study them and you'll find your answer.
But Canelo is now the cash cow, so if GGG wants that Payday along with the green belt he will have to give in to Canelo's demands.
154 Super Welterweight, yep he said it way back when he was fighting Ishida and stuff like that I remember.
Wrong. The only thing a cash cow or "a-side" should be able to dictate is purse split as well as the other trivial matters (who's announced first, who walks out first, etc.) A cash show shouldn't be allowed to dictate things that could affect the outcome of a fight. Weight would be an example.
That's how it would seem but that's not how it works. There's more to it. If GGG fights Canelo at a Catch Weight everything you just stated will become null and void. But carry on, chap!
Sugar Ray Leonard got fights forever changed from 15rds to 12 when he had to fight Hagler, even created an entire new division "168" so he could win a LHW Title under 175. Considering that asking for a catchweight really is nothing. I get it a title especially a unification under the limit is kind of crazy but it is what it is. The only reason people even know who Gennandy is today is because of the 154-68 thing, you can't take all the hype you got from it then be mad that people want you to live up to it. Its a double edged sword you have to take the good and the bad.
shut up. we need you here. Hans messaged me the other day about how awesome it is to have a clued up lass on the board
Really. You're going to contribute Golovkin's popularity solely because of him saying he'd fight 154-168. It has nothing to do with KO'ing out every single opponent, being the most fan friendly style, and fighting 4x a year? Asking for a catchweight against a fighter who's in YOUR DIVISION and his your MANDATORY is something. It's laughable.
