Wlad is terrified of being hit: That explains everything

Its OK to be terrified to be hit by a hard puncher if you have a soft chin. But Fury is the most feather fisted opponent Wlad has faced in years. I don't know why he was so scared of being hurt by him!

 

Fury throws many feather fisted type of punches but that does not mean he cant also put more power occasionally into a single one of his blows which is how the sport works. if you throw power punches all night you are going to run out of power quickly. As well throwing feather fisted type of punches is a great way to find range and time a guy because you aren't hurting him but you are landing. It makes it easier to then put a lot of power into a well timed blow and take your opponent by surprise.

overall I am not saying Fury is a huge puncher, just saying its not entirely true to call him only feather fisted.

 

That clearly is the case.
And the worst thing is, I expect a pre Sanders Wlad would have annihilated Fury, while that's a lesser version.

yeah good point, however, he is scared of gassing so much because gassing means he cant defend himself and then he starts to get hit so it is one and the same thing overall.

 

Fury is the only man to ever KO Steve Cunningham, hes not feathe rfisterd 70% ko ratio.

 

Um who likes to get hit ? It's boxing the art of hitting while not getting hit ..

 

I dont think ive ever seen a boxer so scared of taking a punch. Certainly not a long time world champion in the heavyweight division. Fraudley maybe.

His chin is not good but its not as bad as he seems to think it is.

 

Wlad is afraid of both getting hit clean and gassing.

For as much credit as Emmanuel Steward gets for Wlad's success the last decade, I really feel he's to blame for the timid fighter Wlad turned out to be.

Steward wasn't in Wlad's corner when he got blitzed by Sanders, but he was in his corner when he was stopped by Lamon Brewster.

Emmanuel Steward was literally like a jockey riding a horse on that night vs Brewster. Wlad was dominating Brewster but wasn't getting him out of there.
In between rounds, Steward was taking the whip out on Wlad, like a jockey would whip a horse to make him run faster.
Brewster had a solid chin and could take punishment, and Steward was imploring Wlad to go for the finish when Brewster wasn't quite ripe to be stopped.
Wlad obliged Stewards advice and eventually gassed with Brewster still on his feet and ready to come back and take it to Wlad.
What ensued was Wladimir having nothing left and going to pieces as Brewster was advancing guns blazing with Wladimir getting hit and feeling helpless.


People don't like calling it like it is and making Emmanuel Steward look bad, but that night, Steward took the whip out and started whipping his horse to soon and it resulted in his horse completely running out of gas and breaking down.
The long term results of it was Wlad's fear for gassing and getting hit, and a decade of the most boring Heavyweight championship reign in history.

 

In all fairness to Wlad, Fury is far, FAR from being feather-fisted. He hits reasonably hard. You can't possibly not respect his power as an opponent. He beat Cunningham (often floored, never previously stopped) via TKO and stopped the notoriously hard to stop Chisora who only ever got stopped by Haye. Vitali didn't manage to leave a scratch on Dereck meanwhile.

Obviously, but let's no be so simplistic, shall we? When the fear of getting hit extends to the point where you are scared to throw more than 2 power punches per round, surely you are bound to lose?

 

wlad needs to retire. no point taking the rematch, unless he fights aggressively.

 

Fury (much like old Vitali) hurts people by accumulation. He has no way to hurt even lightly chinned boxers with a single punch. How many punches did Chisora take before throwing in the towel? 500? Don't you think if Fury had at least average power Chisora would have been decapitated by round 3.

 

This is quite an indictment of Steward (whom I have alot of admiration for), but it's a good argument and hey, everybody makes mistakes. HoF trainers included.
