Not sure how I missed this at the time!!:lol:

Great stuff, not a bad prediction too. I thought Canelo would get the stoppage myself but he seemed content to fight within himself, probably knowing there was no way he would lose it on the cards. :hey

Still no word from the WBC then eh? Still working out the best way to justify ducking GGG without looking like even more corrupt idiots than usual I suspect.

I've been great! Extremely busy, but great.

I expected Wlad to lose, if I'm being honest. I told all of my friends that Wlad should have retired after his last fight. I even considered betting on Fury, but being such Wlad fan, I couldn't do it. It has been obvious for quite some time that he is on a serious decline. It isn't that he can't get himself in shape, or that he doesn't take the sport seriously... it's just that he simply has the "see the opening, but can't pull the trigger" problem that faces most aging boxers, even at a much younger age than Wlad.

I take nothing away from Fury, if it wasn't him that Wlad was fighting, Wlad would most likely still be champ. Fury had the right movement, size, gameplan, and most importantly... mindset to win that that fight. Against most fighters, Wlad would still have the ability to control the distance and pace of the fight... and eventually knock them out after they are worn down, or win a wide UD. Tyson fought smart... he didn't get too aggressive, because unlike what most people think... that would be the worst way for him to fight Wlad. He would have been knocked out.

However, let's not kid ourselves... there were several moments in this fight where Wlad could have EASILY lined up a wide open shot, but he just couldn't let his hands go. He could cut off the ring, back Fury into the ropes, and then... nothing. Fury wasn't so spectacular that he didn't leave plenty of openings to be taken advantage of. That is what makes it obvious that it wasn't just Fury, it was Wlad. That and the fact that Wlad has gone on an obvious decline in his recent fights. As I stated before, he went from a guy who was an offensive machine (people don't just forget how to throw punches like that)... to a methodical, cautious, "set you up and take you out" fighter.... to a jab, jab, lean on you, and wear you down to a decision or late stoppage fighter..... to a guy who now has a difficult time letting his hands go at all.

I would encourage everyone to watch his older fights, such as his fight against Monte Barrett. We all know that he fought different under Steward, but I just want people to see and understand how fluid of a fighter he was. Inside and outside, comfortable, relaxed, extremely fast, threw counters, ect... Wlad only grew robotic with age.

Now, this doesn't mean that Wlad can't win a rematch. I would assume that Wlad now has the pressure off, should have some sort of fire lit, and would much more likely to throw punches that he simply wouldn't before. Wladimir is a smart guy, and I'm sure that he will study the fight and see Fury's tendencies, and plenty of missed opportunity. Now, as I said before, at Wlad current age that could spell disaster for Wlad. However, an aggressive Wlad could also spell disaster for Fury. To do this, Wlad is going to have to train unlike he has trained in years, and really condition himself to go into the ring with a completely different mindset, mentality, and game plan. It's not going to be easy at his age, and I'm not even sure he can change that way anymore... but it's his only hope.

On the other side of the coin, we have to expect Fury to become a better fighter after this as well. His confidence should be through the roof at this point.

    :good

Well it seems the pieces are in place now, for Canelo to get a "voluntary" without being stripped. Shocking! Who could have foreseen this scenario playing out?

    Outstanding post!

    :thumbsup

And I remember the activity rate of a pre-Steward Wlad, and the more exciting and explosive fighting style he used to employ.

I also agree with your final point on Fury going into a return bout with more confidence. But that's actually something that may hinder someone with Fury's personality type.

Curious to see how Wlad approaches things next time around.

He performed fairly well in most of his fights since then. But I get what you're saying, and I think he'd have performed better in all of those contests if he had Emanuel in his corner. This isn't meant as a knock on Banks, but there was only one Emanuel Steward.
