**** Tiger certainly was great, but he was comprehensively destroyed by the great Bob Foster
Richie Sandoval sure looked like he was on the verge of greatness when he blew away the great Jeff Chandler, even if Chandler was on the downslde of his career,...and he got destroyed by Gaby Canizales
Mark Breland had everyone's blessing as an ATF in the making, but he all know what happened to him vs Marlon Starling,...a real, sho nuff great in my books.

Your right about Laporte when I think about him, he always seemed lackadaisical in the ring, uninterested. Esp when he was or thought he was behind. Do you think the Gomez lost made him that way. Or was it just who he was.

Milton should've taken that match for the vacant undisputed title against Curry in '83 when he had the chance. He possibly could've beaten Donald, but Emanuel had his reasons. Colin Jones exposed him somewhat, and he never improved while champion, whereas Curry did.

I feel like starting a ridiculous "could anybody knock out Juan LaPorte?" thread, but I won't.

I know hearns will go down as great. But what if he beat Leonard first time around. I think it bumps him up on the all time list a bit

I think he had a problem with lackadaisical performances in certain fights before and after the Gomez fight. In others, he was highly motivated. I think he was motivated against Gomez, it was just a matter of Gomez being better on that night.

Yeah, it would be hard to think of someone who could stop him in his prime. Maybe prime featherweight Arguello.

Laporte was only stopped once and never knocked down. Even the stoppage loss was a matter of his corner stopping it after 10 rounds because he was far behind. He was never staggered in the fight - against the busy Zack Padilla in 1994. And LaPorte was way, way past is peak when that fight happened.

Moore could have had a much better career but he was (and still is) incredibly overhyped because he got off to such a fast start. Terrible on defense and punched too widely to handle elite fighters.

Zack Padilla couldn't have decked LaPorte if he had hit him with his corner stool and a brick.

Blatantly obvious and Watt should have been disqualified.

He did win the WBA title from Hilmer Kenty after that fight. I thought he looked very impressive in that fight, especially the body shots.
Sorry Red, this should of been in response to Turnips post.

I sometimes suspect that the Kronk guys burned themselves out in their infamous gym wars.
