No. I was speaking more broadly over boxing's history. I think the welterweight-middleweight titles may have had more prestige. Generally the Heavyweight Champion to fans and casual obsrvers has a higher profile.

"He made him laugh". That's simultaneously the best and worst excuse I've ever heard for a defeat!

"His sole loss prior to his fight with Clay was to a journeyman opponent named Marty Marshall in 1954, when Marshall managed to break Liston's jaw with a right hand while Liston was laughing at him."

Why would they lie? Everybody hated Liston at the time.

In some ways it makes sense. It seems like they may have been good friends and that laughing would not have been out of the question. They fought 3 times, the 3rd time they had to be warned twice to actually fight.

How much of Liston's record is padded with these friendlies?

What was Liston's best win ? The glass-chinned joke Patterson who had a skinny middleweight body-structure.
Liston was feared because he hadn't at least 210 pounds muscular skilled champion quality opponents. Easy to beat weak unathletic men.

Who wasn't beatable ? This doesn't mean Tyson is overrated.
But nobody can say an example when the Rooney version Tyson lost.
Steward version Lummox and wk lost for example considering so many
boxing fans praise Steward like a god.Rooney never was a good trainer
but he has a perfect record with a young heavyweight champion at least.Obviously Tyson can't be overrated when he was great without
    a good trainer.

How about the 211 pounds Nino Valdes? Or maybe the 229 pounds Cleveland Williams?
