Is it just me or does it seem like this division has a bad rep in terms of the quality of its fighters. I'll admit people are strating to acknowledge that it is an exciting division so I can't say anything about that but in the eyes of the boxing fans it still is seen as a bit of a joke.

For example, no cruiserweight is ever even considered for a p4p list, why is that? Wlad up until recently was stated to be one of the best fighters in the sport... Yet Huck moved up and gave his best win, Povetkin a hiding. Cunningham also had good success even being past prime as he was. And recently the guy who knocked out Charr clean.

What about Chambers, he tried to move down and go thoroughly schooled by that African.

So my point is that, these guys aren't just bums giving exciting fights in a weak division, they're all serious competitors.

It's a new division that has only had 1 break out star in his prime, David Haye, who moved up and embarrassed the division.

There is really no need for this division to exist. Either you are LHW or HW.
    200 pound division is unnecessary.

Cruiserweights are too small to compete with the modern superheavyweights.

The cruiserweight has great fighters and Lebedev is one of the best left handed punchers in the game along with stevenson.
drozd is a very good boxer.
usyk is one of the most talented boxers coming up.
and also they have some brutes in makabu, kudrayshov, durdola, kalenga, glowacki and Wlodarczyk. either gonna knock you out in devasting fashion or be ko'd. they are big men and competitive together, there is no one man as the best. although i think lebedev is the best im biased. you can see the fights only recently in russia to see africans suprise upsets and great KO's.

its an exciting division, they also have better stamina than heavies and can punch non stop for 12.

They could always pull a James Toney and hit the local buffet and become a HW in 2 months.

I'm on it. I have slept on this division since the hype days of David I must admit.

Wasn't Holyfield a cruiser early on in his career?

Also, what noise Haye made speaks more to the weakness of the hw division than anything else, especially considering the ignominy of his surrender to Klinchko when he got his shot.

haye beat a 40year old barrett, a statue who couldnt get out his own way, and ruiz. to get that shot.

haye is a fraud. dont allow haye to cloud the judgement on hw scene, and definitely the 200lb scene. :happy

I agree man, it's amazing. I just want these guys to start getting the recognition in terms of their talent. Beating good fighters, the likes of Drozd, Huck or Lebedev should be a big deal rather than the usual "What an exciting division!" which is what people would be saying if it happened.

Another question, what will it take to elevate this division... I think a breakout star is needed but who? Could Usyk be the one to bring this division to new heights? He's got the perceived p4p talent and if he stayed he could finally bring proper legitimacy to it.

Its the best division in boxing IMO. You have men that are very big but at the same time small enough to have fast hands and beautiful technique. The top guys fight each other and when they do they throw down.

I hope Beterbiev one day moves up as well, this guy will likely become a great LHW, he's a big guy so he could easily make a move upward.

If he did it, he could also help to legitimize it to the boxing fandom.
