Finally did research on Roy Jones. He actually did avoid most of the top MW-SMW.

Dariusz has to be the one who he should have fought, considering they were number 1 and 2 for a long time. It's a real shame we never saw it. But both men wouldn't travel, and although I was disappointed, I could never give Roy a hard time for not going to Germany.

    superconan,

    :good

I don't know the specifics of what happened with Bernard in 1996, but I know that Roy wasn't really interested in fighting a MW who he'd recently beaten while injured. Roy had absolutely nothing to prove or to gain. All Bernard had done at that point, was to pick up Roy's old belt that Roy had relinquished. Although McCallum was coming to the end of his career and was faded, fighting him gave Roy a gateway to the LHW division.

Just like you can't get over what a shot 'Zaggers did to Roid in Roid's next fight. Despite your pre fight prediction of a Jones win :lol::lol::lol:

I really felt for him back then.

That was a joke to be honest.

HBO had a pre approved list, he had mandatory obligations from three organisations, and most people didn't realise what was happening behind the scenes. Kerry Davis tried extremely hard to bring Dariusz to the States. And in the following year, Hopkins turned down $6m for a 168 catch weight because he wanted $10m.

I could feel the fans frustrations, but it was a complete myth that Roy was only content to fight the weakest opponents. Thankfully, he went onto fight Ruiz and Tarver shortly afterwards.

It was the annoucement of Gonzalez as a opponent that led to the Roycott. I think I can safely say that Jones only had himself to blame for that

Why do you always bring up Calzaghe?

Again, I can understand the frustrations. But what were his realistic options at the time? Calzaghe? They had brief talks, but Joe wouldn't have gone to the U.S. and took a small purse to fight Roy at LHW. Also, despite how good Joe was, at the time it wouldn't have been a big fight.

We know that Roy couldn't reach a compromise with Dariusz, and we also know that he had one eye on King's MW tournament. So at that specific point in time, I think his options were really limited.

Once again, I can only apologise for my late arrival on bringing my expertise into the debate.

It does appear that Roy was not the man in these weight divisions.

I cannot answer why Roy didnt fight some of the top fighters available at that time.
He could have really made a big move at LHW with Tiozzo, Rocchigiani, Nunn, Michalczewski, Maske around at different times, which is where he did his most impressive work.
I cant think of Roy beating any better LHWs than the fighters mentioned, and dont try and say Hill because of his result with Tiozzo
