Erik Morales ranks amongst the top 3 mexican fighters of all time!

Erik one of my favourites ever, after Hamed and Ali.
His 12th round vs Pacquiao in his win, is legendary.

 

He beat Ayala at 126 not at 122.
He arguably lost all three fights with MAB.
He only won titles in 3 weight divisions.

Top 3 of all time is laughable to say the least.

 

You must be easy to impress, there was nothing legendary about that 12 th round . So Morales turned southpaw and almost got knocked the **** out big ****ing deal , Terence Crawford changes stances every time and i dont see anyone thinking hes doing something legendary.

 

Terrace Crawford has never done it against a savage like a prime pacquiao though

Morales is one of my favourite aswell top 3, maybe top 5 definitely ... Even though Barrera 'won' the trilogy I still rate Erik above him

 

Really? He arguably beat MAB 2 out of 3.

I'll give Morales credit for the slighter greater career, but it's bull**** to claim he deserved two of the Barrera fights. Barrera was clearly robbed in the first fight, when he didn't just outscore Morales but clearly beat him up with heavier punches and inflicted more damage in 7 rounds. The third was fairly close in rounds, but a clear, impressive 7-5 win for MAB. The second was close, with Morales taking most of the early rounds, but no robbery for Erik. MAB coasted early, but once he committed himself to coming forward with what's in fact the better jab of the two, he beat Morales to the punch, and landed the more authoritative punches. And Morales had no answer once Barrera adjusted because Barrera's a brilliant counterpuncher.

Praise Morales for his great career, but leave the Barrera fights out of such praise. MAB whooped his ass twice, and I had him winning all three fights. Through 36 rounds he proved that he at least had Morales' number, and probably that he was simply the better fighter.

 

agree to disagree, a lot of people think Morales beat MAB 2 out of 3 times. Anytime you get two of the best going at it, you'll always get a different opinion. It is what it is.

 

Great fighter and surely a first ballot HOf fighter.

Off the top of my head though (I should think about it for a while,) I don't know anyone who would rate him over Chavez Sr or Olivares, both long standing champions. Sal Sanchez was on a legendary trajectory until his life was cut way too short. Even though he passed away so young, he had some memorable bouts against a few of the top tier fighters of the lower divisions (such as Gomez and the great Azumah Nelson.) So I'd probably rate him over Morales as well.

I don't even know if I'd rate Morales over the great JMM whose really carved out a great HOF career for himself. His longevity is what stands out to me. I'd have to dissect MAB's career also, but he might also be someone I'd rank over EL Terrible (not too sure though, it's probably razor close between those 2.)

 

He's number two after Chavez. Sanchez died too young to leave a super strong legacy.
