Most fans seem to love these fights but does any one else here find some of the more low-strategy rock-em-sock-em robot style fights uninteresting? If so, do any particular ones come to mind? A couple that just never did it for me were Merqui Sosa vs Prince Charles Williams and Alex Ramos vs Curtis Parker.
Lyle foreman. Was an entertaining fight but such a sloppy mess. I like a slugfest with a little more finesse
Some, but not me, might put Lewis - Klitschko into that category. Technically it was a pretty awful fight. But at least to me, the entertainment value supersedes this.
That's fair, but Lyle-Foreman was at least entertaining in a slapstick/ three stooges kind of way and had some good shifts in momentum.
I find Caveman Lee vs John LoCicero is a bit overhyped as a slugfest. It only really came to life in the last round and a half.
Foreman-Lyle is one of the best. Hardcore criminal wanting to prove his mettle against the most feared puncher of his era. Brutal firefight and true test of strength will and determination
Yep epic fight. I don't get the people who don't like slugfests. Sure they may be sloppy but by their very nature they are exciting and competitive. I shelled out money for Floyd-Pac and I paid money for Bradley-Provodnikov and I sure as hell know which one was money better spent.
I love some slugfests but dislike others. If I got off on sloppy, exciting fights, I would spend way more time watching youtube footage of backyard brawl fights rather than classic boxing matches. To each their own, but I generally prefer fights in which boxers use their brains and skills to try to exploit their advantages over their opponents instead of fighting like Rocky movie characters.
Fair enough. I like tactical battles as well and I appreciate dominant displays but I like to see punches landing interspersed with some exchanges as a rule. Fights with little action, too much posturing or clinching and without any drama don't do much for me these days but that's just me. The backyard fights on youtube are an extreme example though. Foreman-Lyle or Lewis-Klitschko at their sloppiest were 100% more skilful than virtually everyone of those sideshows.
Who the hell watches backyard fights? And why would anyone compare them to professional fighters like Lyle -Foreman? I must be missing something. Yes, boxing is about skills but just as important, like all sports, it's also about entertainment.
I LOVE slugfests! EVERYTHING gets tested in a slugfest. Your heart, desire, conditioning, ability to overcome adversity - the lot. Tactical fights are great, but they can be boring. Look at the drama with the Ward/Gatti, Corrales/JLC, Vasquez/Marquez, Hagler/Hearns, Benn/Eubank fights... Amazing! They've got so much replay value it's absurd. 30 odd years later and we still talk about Hagler/Hearns! I do love a good systematic dismantling, but slugfests are integral to the sport.
