Mayweather-Mosley are you kidding me, you clearly don't understand the kind of state Quillin was in if you're comparing the two fights.

Quillin himself has said he had no complaints over the stoppage. That should be the end of the debate.

Quillin was badly shaken by the punch that started it all, but he managed to cover up and smother Jakobs to a degree,

BUT the big right just before the stoppage completely scrambled his sense's, and he barely stayed upright.

Had the ref allowed it to continue, with Quillin virtually defenseless, it could have ended horribly.

    Fair stoppage imo.

IIRC, the no standing 8 count rule was in effect for this fight...

Jacobs put Dock in a difficult position by walking off as Quillin started staggering, but hadn't actually gone down. Jacobs knew Quillin had had enough and didn't wanna put anymore on him.

Quillin was separated from his senses by that final right hand. That was a good stoppage...

:dealAgree 100% It should apply to all fights, then we'd have got to see Molina Jr. Vs. DeMarco play out the way it should have.:hey

Ref is a moron, got himself between them facing Jacobs, the guy who was not hurt lol, robbed him of a KD, then realized his mistake, hesitated and decided to stop the fight.

I agree he mishandled it but I think the right call was made as Peter was done

Stoppage was fine. Has Quillin not been getting pasted in the thirty second salvo that preceded it, then there might have been some cause for complaint (...maybe). But he was, and those two right hands simply proved the coup de gras on Jacobs' attack.

It's what you call an 'American stoppage'. Howard Foster would never make a mistake like that. :deal

I have mixed feelings about this. The standing 8 count robs a guy of his momentum, IMO. If a guy is hurt then he should clinch or take a knee to buy himself some time to get his faculties back in order. If you get caught by a big punch and subsequently don't have the presence of mind to clinch or take a knee, why should the ref punish the guy who landed the big punch? Why should the ref save a guy who got caught from getting knocked out? That's what the standing 8 does, IMO...

Had the ref not stopped the action, Quillin was about to get the Joey Gamache treatment...

Well, it also removes all of the idiotic British stoppages around the world. Ruins so many fights. :patsch
