There was no standing 8 count rule in this fight. He had no reason to jump in and judge Quillin. He wasn't getting pummeled along the ropes or anything. He didn't even jump in to stop the fight until he separated the two. Foh, lmao.

A poll doesn't tell **** here. The ref jumps in to stop Jacobs because he thinks that Quillin is going down. He doesn't go down, judges him with no standing 8 count, and you're ok with the stoppage. Foh.

Not even close. This stoppage was 180 degrees different than that Calzaghe stoppage of Manfredo Jr.

Quillin was out that he didnt even complain. That look the ref gave him before waving it off was good.

It sucks but it is what it is.

It is fully within the ref's discretion to do that any time they want in a fight.

I'm not sure why your brain is failing to decipher what you're watching, maybe you need to play it back one more time. The ref didn't 'jump in' or seperate the fighters at any point.

    a) Dock never thought Quillin went down, or was going down.

    b) he didn't require a standing eight to determine Quillin was out in that moment on his feet.

    c) yes, more than okay, perfect stoppage.

The ref's discretion ****ed up the ending of the fight. There is no standing 8 count. Why did he jump in? Because he thought that Quillin was going down. These are top 5 MW's. Even Jacobs said that if he was the ref he would've given Quillin a chance.

If the ref thought that he was taking too many shots, he would've immediately stopped it after Quillin got hit with that last shot. He didn't. He thought that Quillin was going down. He didn't. You wave Jacobs on, stay close and see if Quillin can recover, and if he can't THEN you stop the fight.

Why do you keep mentioning standing eight counts or Dock thinking Quillin was going down? Neither of those are salient points here. It doesn't matter whether or not the standing eight was in effect. A ref doesn't have to use one as prelude to a stoppage.

...and Malignaggi himself narrated the slow-motion replay while correcting his own initial assumption of a bad stoppage on Dock's part illustrating how Dock clearly didn't think Quillin was going down and was instead making a judgment based on having a look at his eye*****.

So if he didn't think that Quillin was going down, why did he jump in when Quillin LOOKED like he wa going down? He can't separate the fighters and then judge them. He has to immediately stop the fight. There is no standing 8 count. And I'm the one telling you that there was no standing 8 count. And no, we don't need refs like Dock refereeing big fights anymore. You won't see him in any big fights for a while.

Stop applying the actual rule to an invisible non applicable point that you're making and talk about the actual fight.

And if we go by fighters words, we can hit Twitter and you'll see how many fighters actually thought that the stoppage was premature.

Ok, lets use Floyd Mayweather's comments. Floyd Mayweather said that Quillin DIDN'T go down so why is the ref stopping the fight.
