Firstly I present to you the War that these 2 fought in the Amateurs. Whyte gave Joshua a hiding. Look and see- https://youtu.be/fqmp_18Ny_g Some of you will say this matters little to the pro division. I say it matters a lot. I expect the same kind of fight and I believe there is at least a 50 percent chance of Whyte blasting Joshua out of there. Either way - expect a WAR. Who will win? -It is far less certain than most people think. -Kiwi.
Guess we'll see. I'm definitely intrigued, and hopefully the fight will go longer than 6 and show us a few things.
I wouldn't take too much from that amateur fight. It was very early on in both their amateur careers. Whyte at the time had the advantage of an extensive kickboxing career which lasted several years and finished with a record of 20-1 and he also had an MMA fight as well. So when he fought Joshua he was the vastly more experienced fighter. Joshua had only started boxing a couple of years before and it was probably his first year competing as an amateur. Also the ring was tiny in their fight which would give the shorter Whyte a clear advantage. I doubt their fight coming up will be in such a tiny ring. But it would be silly to totally discount Whyte's chances. He's undefeated and can clearly punch and will be the first opponent to really pose any kind of offensive threat. But I suspect he's a little too sloppy and easy to hit to win, if he does win he will have to eat some bombs to do so.
Your only argument would be if Joshua was the same fighter comapred to that fight. But, he has improved a lot since that point. He improved as an amateur in Team GB, and is now improving even more quicker as a pro under Sims and McCracken.
Yes exactly I also think that Mike Tyson would have knocked David Tua out if they ever fought each other.
He was 20-1 and was ranked UK number 1 for 5 years and was a 2 time UK champion. Suffice to say, even though it was his debut as an amateur boxer he was far more experienced as a fighter than Joshua when they fought. It's a shame Whyte was stripped of his amateur status it would have been nice to see how he would have progressed along side Joshua. But rules are rules I guess.
Comes down to a few things. If Joshua can control the fight and the pace he will win. I think he can do this becuase his a good jab and height advantage while dillians jab is poor However if whyte has a good chin and can take it to the later rounds and put pressure on him then he has a chance
Clutching at straws if you think that amateur bout has any baring. One thing I got from the fight is AJ can take his licks and still try to win the fight. Joshua is a good 2 stone heavier now and likely a lot sturdier. Whyte fights in basically the same way as back then whereas Joshua has improved massively. If DW comes out aggressively he may get lucky but, if he has any negativity in his tactics he'll get taken out within 4 rounds. AJ looks pretty unstoppable if he's dictating the fight.
