Neither do you apparently. If you want to solely blame Wilder for this, he's already had three others reject this fight.
The only solid opponent they made an offer to was Glazkov. Jennings did call him out, Takam has been waiting by the phone for months and we don't know what happened with Szpilka but Szpilka's camp said team Wilder wasn't willing to make the fight. This would be a disgraceful, terrible, s****ty fight and it's disrespectful to the green belt. Briggs was shot 5 years ago when he fought Vitali and he took a career ending beating in there. He's not a top100 HW now.
I don't know which one is more sad. This even being considered or some boxing fans seriously defending this and trying to sell this as some sort of clash of two big punchers. :verysad
Briggs can still punch. No denying that. Yes, he is past it, heavy and easy to hit, but he has been for the last decade. Truthfully, I don't think there is much difference between Briggs now and when he fought Vitali, and he fought Vitali with a torn bicep. You got to take into consideration, a guy whose power and chin were always his best attributes is going to be the least effected by age. See George Foreman. He still hasn't been stopped since Lennox Lewis. Don't get me wrong, this is not my first choice for the next Wilder fight. But given that he has had three guys pull out on him, and that the alternative is Stiverne 2 or Wawrzyk, its forgiveable. Briggs is still game and a fairly big name.
JESUS H CHRIST....!!!!...and still people defend this guys choice of opponents FFS!...this 16th Jan show should be s****ped and rescheduled when an opponent with a top 10 ranking and a pulse can be found. Windy Miller should be demanding his team sort their **** out and deliver a worthy opponent, but no. This absolute fraud will gladly continue his run of crushing tomato cans and stinking out the joint at every opportunity.....shameful
Even 50-year old Billy Wright wants a shot at the title. They should indeed cancel the fight and wait for a normal contender.
They should just cancel the date and start training for Povetkin fight in April/May. No need to make more of a laughing stock out of yourself and risk getting injured.
Forty four years old or not, Briggs is shooting his mouth off trashing the hell out of Wilder. Why not take the challenge if he can find no other opponent? It could still be a good tune up for Povetkin. Like I said, Briggs still has a great chin and hits hard.
