He's being slaughtered for things he said BEFORE he won the biggest prize in sport though?

He's just kept reciting the bible and thanking Jesus since he won it

    Mostly!! Lol

If he is to hold such a mainstream title, he needs to distance himself from extreme views. To not do so, is failing in his responsibilites that he choose to sign up to.

If he wished to keep them opinions, then he should not of signed a contract that could and indeed did lead to him becoming THE Heavyweight Champion of the World.

You do realise Tyson Fury is catholic

For decades the catholic faith have been anti abortion - they don't believe babies should be killed before they are born

They have always been against gay marriages

Pope Francis is against abortion and against gay marriage

    So is Tyson Fury

You are basically saying that you can be against abortion and against gay marriage and become the Pope and be treated like royalty in every country your visit and welcome in Buckingham Palace etc

But you can't become Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World?

Do you realise how ridiculous that is?

He's ok to be voted the next Pope but he's not ok to be voted the next sports personality of the year

    It's fookin ridiculous really

Surely the pope should be getting told to keep his opinions to himself

And how come the BBC reporters don't call the Pope a dxckhead?

I honestly don't get the difference?

Is being the heavyweight champion of the world now considered a bigger role model than the pope and now Tyson has to distance himself from the views of the Pope?

    Am I missing something here?

The Pope is not claiming THE World Heavyweight Championship. If he did, then he too would have to distance himself from such views.

Fury is entitled to be Catholic, to call himself a Catholic, but his responsibilities are such, that he needs to find a way to also accept the obligations of holding such a prestigious title. This means disowning what many would consider offensive views.

As I wrote, he had every right to express his opinions, and if he had not put himself in a position to hold the title he now does, he would have every right to continue to express his radical views.

You seriously are saying that you can have whatever views you want as the Pope but you have to distance yourself from the same views if you are a boxer

He is a boxer who follows the catholic faith and agrees with the Pope

Perhaps if the Pope became pro abortion and for gay marriage so would Tyson Fury

So you now can't be a devout catholic and heavyweight champion boxer?

    Incredible

I think that's actually discrimantory myself?

He's an acutely intelligent man, without formal education who seemingly adapts into any situation and ultimately comes out on top.

The predictable PC method of attack is already being utterly disarmed by, for example, Fury tweeteting about the press outside his house this morning and then offering AND actually going on a run with one of them [Channel 5].

He is a smart guy. It might all be instinct, but I think that's a disservice to him.

He'll come out of this storm in a teacup still the undisputed World Champion and with a hugely raised public profile for his next PPV fight.

He can either give up his titles or give up his religious beliefs

Does that apply to Muslims and Islamists as well or just catholics?

No, not a boxer, but THE Heavyweight World Champion.

The Pope represents Catholics, that is his 'market'.

Fury is now a position where he now is the owner of most prestigious title in boxing and probably the whole of sports. His thoughts and views will affect the sport a lot more, because he is now one of the main 'faces' of the sport.

There is a significant Catholic following in the sport, but the majority are not Catholic, and Fury needs to represent these people as well. So he is going to have to 'play the media' a lot better than he thus far has.

    Religion or belief discrimination

    Key points

It is unlawful to discriminate against workers because of their religion*or belief, or lack of religion or belief.

View or download the Acas guide * Religion or belief and the workplace - a guide for employers and employees [347kb].

There are four main types of discrimination:

    Direct discrimination

Is when someone is treated differently and not as well as other people because of their religion or belief. It breaks down into three different sorts of direct discrimination or treating someone 'less favourably' because of:

their own religion or belief (direct discrimination)
their perceived religion or belief (direct discrimination by perception)
their association with someone who has a particular religion or belief *(direct discrimination by association).

No wonder BBC haven't removed him from the list of SPOTY

He could sue them for discrimination

I guess Pope Francis will have to step down from Pope if he wins - but will be ok to carry on as Pope if he loses?

Also if he wins will Greg Rutherford accept him as a fellow sports personality nominee or will he remove himself from the voting for another day?

So he would have been ok to still be a devout catholic had he lost?

Does he have to live in a house all the time now as well?

Or can he still live in a caravan every now and then when he wants to?

Tyson Fury is fully entitled to be a Catholic, to proudly speak of his faith.

He is the WORLD Heavyweight Champion of Boxing. He signed a contract to get in that position. He now has obligations and responsibilities that he has not had in the past.

Some of these responsibilities may affect his personal beliefs. He clearly is a very intelligent and in his way an artistic person. He must have had at least an idea of what would happen if he beat Wlad, and the adjustments he was going to have to make. He now needs to make them...
