Good fight, will let us know if either guy has anything left. This one is far from a slam dunk for either guy.
First he didn't KO Mundine, he dropped him 6 times but so did Charles Hatley recently only he managed to get the stoppage. That doesn't mean anything to me. I agree with you Clottey beat Cotto on my card as well, however even though I'm not one to defend Cotto since I can't stand him, but had he not headbutted the s*** out of Cotto and Cotto's eyebrow hadn't been basically hanging off of his face for the last 8 or 9 rounds, Cotto would have most likely beaten him with ease, as far as the granite chin goes he was dropped by Cotto early...remember? Clottey doesn't have exceptionally fast feet and his defense isn't all that great either, Clottey's also 5'8 whereas Rosado is around 6 to 6'1 in spite of his official height being lower, he was visibly taller than GGG and Lemieux who are 5'11 and 5'10. Rosado will not hesitate in walking Clottey down like he did Soto-Karass, when Gabe is in the ring with a smaller opponent who's a less than exceptional puncher he's a far more aggressive and lets his hands go often times punching in combination while backing his opponents up, Clottey will not have the strength or the power to hold him back.
Bro that was a cotto jab at the end of r1 that yes landed on his face but caught him throwing and threw him off balance
He doesn't have great defense? Him and Winky Wright are the ear muff brothers. I mean.. for that style of defense its about as tight and responsible as it gets, not sure how you can justify this statement. The only reason his face was unmarked in the Pacquaio fight while pacs was more scruffed up then his, was because of this defense. Even though it also demonstrates his tendency to regress into taht shell under pressure. So if Rosado fights like that, then he will greatly improve his chances of winning this fight. I will review the Soto-Karass fight and see what similarities he has to Clottey. The fights I have seen Rosado fight, he never has come super aggressive, even when he was walking Qullin down in rounds 3-7... he wasn't throwing a super lot, but he was applying a lot of pressure. This style of pressure will not work vs Clottey he has to throw nonstop, not just walk him down. i dont think he has done that in his career.
After viewing some of the footage...Soto-Karass is a poor comparison my friend. You can see the difference between Rosado and Karass. In your mind, Clottey is as blustering and uncoordinated as Karass. But the reality is its just a different class of fighter. Not as accurate, not as fast, not as tight defensively. The reality is that Clottey is more athletic and coordinated then Rosado. Not to mention Clottey should still built be built like a tank still at 158. Rosado and Clottey are similar in the body , not like a nazi camp survivor like karass Secondly, even though Rosado was outclassing Karass and being aggressive. Again he was just picking his spots to do it.. not throwing nonstop
CLOTTEY: Clottey is older, which could play a role in this fight. Clottey's chin is top notch, only time he was knocked down was by Miguel Cotto (a counter jab, albeit Clottey was more off balance). Clottey had great defense, using his arms, shoulders to block punches. Clottey is a rare breed, he thrives on opponent's working his body, as it gives him the opportunity to counter them with righthand head shots. Clottey is tough, but he lacks boxing IQ sometimes during fights; standing there letting his opponent hit him, not returning punches, is he playing possum...??? Is he trying to wear out his opponent...??? Regardless, its been his downfall. He could have easily outpointed Cotto, but he got too lazy in the ring. Clottey has one good habit that can also be classified as a bad habit....Earmuffs. Clottey has a tendency to keep his hands up in the high guard, protecting his face, using his shoulders, elbows, arms to block punches. Only problem with that is, he negates any offense he has. Clottey lacks head movement, the majority of the time he keeps his head statinonary, allotting his opponent the chance to score hard shots. If Rosado can feint a jab, get Clottey to extend his hand to block or parry, Rosado can throw an overhand right on Clottey. Clottey also lacks the ability to move laterally in the ring. His come forward, yet fundamental style, has taken him this far, but every major fighter he has faced has exposed it, sans Baldomir. Baldomir only won because of Clottey's other pitfall: Dirty Tactics. Clottey loves to use his head as another punch. Known well for his sneaky and his flagrant headbutts. ROSADO: Rosado has the better jab. He utilizes moreso as a defensive weapon than an offensive weapon. Rosado has a ton of scar tissue on his eyelids. He is prone to bleeding. Rosado does like to use the jab-jab-right hand, which could spoil any of Clottey's defense posturing. Rosado is a tough as nails type fighter, crossing over from boxing to BKB and back. His style is primarily offensively oriented, but lately that has been his downfall. A 4 fight streak without a win (excluding a ND vs Love), albeit over Top Tier opponents. If Rosado can get back to his defensive nature style, he could easily pose problems for Clottey. A basic gameplan of circling, laterally movement and a steady barrage of jabs and right hands should give Rosado the edge. Can Rosado exploit the lapse in Clottey's game...??? Of course, just stick with headshots, don't throw bodyshots; given Clottey the opportunity he wants to counter the body punches. Rosado needs to get inside Clottey's mind. Maybe throw a low blow or some rough tactic early in one of the early rounds, get Clottey to abandon his style and get him to try to use rough tactics. This will play into Rosado's hand, he could move to the left, throw a jab then right hand, repeat the punch combo. Rosado is the younger, he needs to exploit Clottey's age and legs. Make Clottey move around the ring, don't stand stationary allowing him to block the punches, throw from angles, mix up lead right hands, jabs, uppercuts, etc. Roasado needs to storm the shores, blitz Clottey ala Margarito and Pacquiao. Get Clottey to co**** himself in that defensive shell. My prediction: Clottey will come out trying to establish his presence early. Rosado will outwork him, using lateral movement, punches from different angles. Within 4 rounds Clottey will be frustrated and employing his dirty tactics. Rosado will patiently exploit him, with steady jabs and right hands. By round 7 or 8 Rosado will feint a jab, get Clottey to put on the earmuffs, as soon as Clottey does that, Rosado needs to throw a right uppercut, possibly followed by a left hook. This is spell the end for Clottey. Rosado KO 7 or 8.
Wow, great breakdown! Someone who obviously applys knowledge, experience and puts Quality thought into what he sees in the sport. Ain't but a handful of those around ESB.... thank God you posted! Diving into the ****ysis. Let me start with where I agree. Clottey can absolutely disappear in that shell if you make him. That is his response to quality and constant pressure, IF you are unaffected by his initial counters and keep coming. That is the way as you mention, to get into Clotteys head. I also agree with the head observation, on top of that.... not only can he be dirty, but he also has a tendency to dramatize injury to himself and use it as an excuse to regress. Now where we digress. The lowblow or dirty tactic won't work. Clottey isn't a hothead. He responds to everything with control and calm. That is why pressure works against him, because he is a control freak, and his strategy to control an effective high work rate is to block everything via his high guard shell. It doesn't matter if hes scoring right now, in his head there will be opportunities to score when he sees them. Unfortunately hes wrong vs this style. All this is moot though, because this is not Rosado's style and has never been even once in his career. The problem with the way to beat Clottey, via constant swarmer..ie Marg and Pac is that Rosado has never fought the way as a nonstop swarmer his entire career. Thats just not who he is. He is a boxerpuncher and picks his spots and has many lulls himself in a fight and doesn't thrown voluminious combinations. This a style that Clottey has an advantage over. On Clotteys legs, and on the prescription for Rosado... I don't follow your assesment. Zab Judah used this gameplan and tried to use footwork to move constantly around the ring, and while Judah has mentality issues of his own, Clottey remained aggressive the entire night cut off the ring very effectively with his footwork. You do not want an aggressive Clottey he can give anyone in the world at his weights trouble. That is not how to get in Clotteys head. Rosado can win, but he won't unless he trained his entire training camp to excercise this style transplant, which I don't see happening. Clotteys guard is not something you can feint out of the way with a jab, because he doesn't block it with an open glove he blocks it with tight arms and elbows chin tucked. Best things to do is push him back to the ropes and tee off through the guard all night long. Just not Rosado though as much heart and as tough as he is hes not a constant brawler. Something you never mentioned once which is one of Clotteys best attributes: He is deadly and crisply accurate with his punches. He doesn't have KO power, he doesn't have a high workrate but when he does throw and open up... and this is an attestment to his footwork... he knows exactly how to find his distance and can land at will. Clottey has excellent footwork IMO better then Rosados. His style is not to be elusive via lateral movement, he utilizes that shell and his footwork is subtle to just stay slightly outside or right in range that is how the top boxers do it. Via inches, not big clumsy steps. Also not mentioned.... is his counterpunches! If you let him he will counterpunch you all night because he has great timing. The great boxers have that mastered distance and timing. As they say boxing is a game of inches and timing. Clottey excercises both in his skillset. Rosado is a solid opponent, good heart and willpower, decent boxing skills. But not aggressive enough and not skilled enough to overcome Clottey in my estimation Also you start with Clottey's chin being top notch then out of nowhere Rosado can feint the jab hit him with and uppercut and a hook and boom its all over for Clottey :huh But who knows anyone can be knocked out. Its always possible, i think you'd need a sledgehammer to knock out Clottey personally, but let's see. Rosado is 4 inches taller and will undoubtedly be the bigger man. In any case, good contribution! keep it up.
:deal What moparfan said. That's basically my reasoning to a T as to why I think Rosado will walk through and stop Clottey, only moparfan has the patience to type out an answer that's this thorough whereas I have 0 patience with almost everything. Great work man.:good
Thanks, and great rebuttal. I will clarify one thing, I meant to say IT could spell the end for Clottey; I wrote this is spell the end for Clottey.
