For how long do you consider Wlad to have been the true HW champ?

And Golovkin didn't have a huge window to fight Cotto but it doesn't change that people view him as a MW Champion alongside Cotto rather than the outstanding contender.

There should be one champion, I firmly belive that.

Golovkin was a long time contender to Martinez first.

It would be like Patterson in 62 ducking Liston to lose to Harold Johnson, and Johnson defending the title against a recent Liston blow out victim, and than another top light like Pastrano, because he's an Italian star who will bring more money.

People would say F Johnson, Liston is the real heavy weight king. Johnson would be lineal and the only champion..but yeah.

Than Pastrano says I'm not a heavyweight, I just dabble up here occasionally, but I'm the champ, I'll fight Liston at a 200 lb catchweight or invite Archie Moore to take a shot at my title. Maybe two years..

The Liston haters on these forums would be high fiving each other, proud of Pastrano for making his stand, against that over hyped knock out artist. And will be quick to argue the importance of lineage, how Pastrano beat the man who beat the man. And how Liston is in his mid 30s and has never had a signature win.

That's kinda the point though. To receive championship recognition Liston had to beat the champion, even though he had just destroyed the rest of the top 5.

Golovkin has not had to do that.
