A tin foil hat is a hat made from one or more sheets of aluminium foil, or a piece of conventional headgear lined with foil, worn in the belief it shields the brain from threats such as electromagnetic fields, mind control, and mind reading.
I can see it happening at that level. But no way did he offer a million dollars. Again, capitalism at work, not remotely enough promise on investment to warrant that kind of payoff. But yeah, I'm sure some journeymen still take payoffs from managers of rising prospects that the managers aren't confident about. Just not at the eliminator/championship level.
Its not a conspiracy theory to say that many boxers are just in the fight game to get paid any way they can. In fact THAT is the sensical theory. You just need to establish a name.. you can make plenty of money LOSING to name opponents. Not everyone has the skills to be the best or win and they know it. Not everyone has the dedication to work and improve to win and they know it. People, boxers are living thier life, and plenty of time they dont take the fight game seriously, they just want the paycheck. Make sense?
Sure, and like I said, I can see that at the lower levels. But no serious contender, no one who gets to the point of an eliminator or above, is going to take a petty pay off when there is much more money to be had in winning your fight.
You keep saying no one at the top level is going to throw away a possibility of a Championship [belt] for money...!!! But think about this...how many belts are there now...??? So anyone, even an elite top notch boxer would be willing to take a loss, get paid a ton and then he can easily be back in the top 10 by fighting low level fighters and winning...!!!
Tyson v ettiene was a joke. His ass kept his eyes closed then as soon as he hears nine tries to hop up. He went down on the first punch that landed flush
I think people who accuse professional athletes of not being completely honest to make money are just cynical, and have lost faith in humanity. My friend Jorge says that it may look bad, but the video doesn't show the true power of a devastating knockout. Pick it up from about 2:00 in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leWuKR4TOY0
Most champions barely get 100 000 - 200 000 for a win, some even less. Not everyone is Mayweather or Pacquiao ! What happen is a challenger is offered like 25 000 for a fight, and they tell him like '' Hey you want 5000 more for a dive ? '' or something, and the guy will say yes. He just has to give a half decent performance, his stock will rise, and he'll get more title fights, just has to hold a domestic belt or something to stay in the top 10. Boxing is the most corrupted sport out there.
Say if youre a boxer could you get away with spread betting $100 to lose by ko in round three? Say at odds of 15/1.
Obviously you wouldn't put the bets on yourself. Any boxer betting on himself to lose is going to draw negative attention. However, no one would really care about $100 bets because its a small amount. It's when you start betting in the tens or hundreds of thousands that people notice, get concerned and start asking questions. That said, I'm sure it still goes on from time to time.
The money isn't always in winning. The money is having a fanbase and good promoter......no mention of other 'backers' who may have a wager on the outcome There are many former world champions with no money, and quite a few who didn't make it that are living a very nice life. Rather than an upset, more often an insurance policy. The guy was expected to win but incentives were offered to make sure - lot of people with a lot to lose if he doesnt Fixed fight rather than dive but have a look for a documentary on Luis Resto. I'm sure it will be on YouTube/available online
I've been told by an ex pro journey man that they were paid £9000 by a big name promoter to lose a fight. At a higher level you could have a fighter get somebody to make a bet on them going down in a certain round.
