There is no way HBO wanted a Ruiz fight over a Grant fight. Funny it was about Lewis not fighting Byrd but somehow you dragged him not fighting Ruiz up too.

Chris Byrd didn't fight Kirk Johnson. Chris Byrd didn't fight Hasim Rahman. Chris Byrd didn't fight Michael Grant.

Holyfield and Vitali suffered shoulder injuries. (That's not even debatable.) And Byrd didn't inflict them.

    Byrd was better than Tua.

    That's it.

He wasn't better than Golota, who he arguably lost to. He wasn't better than McCline, who he arguably lost to. He wasn't better than Oquendo, who he arguably lost to.

Wlad knocked him out. Ibeabuchi knocked him out.

Byrd didn't dominate anyone. He got one questionable decision or a draw or he got knocked out over and over again.

I have no idea where you got this notion where he was BETTER than all but Wlad.

Lennox Lewis is a hall of famer. He beat every man he ever faced in the ring. He only lost by one-punch stoppage twice.

He was a dominant heavyweight champion. Chris Byrd wasn't in his league. There was a pubic hair's difference between Byrd and Golota. :hat

Byrd wasn't knocking Lewis out, no matter how juiced to the gills he got.

    :hi

And when Byrd quit taking steroids ... he was exposed for the straw man he was. :deal

I actually didn't. I object to Botha being referred to as a late sub for Ruiz. He was not.

Weird logic. You are insisting you have to fight and beat someone to prove you are better but your whole argument is Lewis didn't fight certain guys to prove he is better.

Two men with shoulder injuries against the same slippery opponent who was making them reach and miss all night...

So who is Byrd lesser than? Lewis didn't fight Oquendo or McCline. McCline was better than Grant and Briggs.

Yep, Golota matched up well against the slowing Byrd. But nobody rates Golota over Byrd.

You asked who was better than him. Shaun George.

That's how good Byrd was when he wasn't juicing.

That's the real Chris Byrd. He was a 165-pounder in the Olympics, and at the end he was a 175-pounder. In between, he blew himself up like a balloon with PEDs.

Chris Byrd on PEDs is equal to Andrew "back acne" Golota, who loved the juice, too.

Whoever you got above Golota, they're above Byrd, too.

Because I watched Byrd fight one average guy after another, from Oquendo to Williamson ... and after all them, they were all panned as bad decisions or too close to call.

He didn't dominate anyone who didn't suffer a shoulder that needed reconstruction.

No. The contract for Lewis/Holyfield2 stated the WBA's mandatory got priority for the first fight against the winner. Who that mandatory was would be entirely irrelevant.

After Lewis beat Holyfield the WBA's number 1 and 2 fighters were Akinwande and Holyfield. Akinwande had some kind of illness and was removed from contention and Holyfield was not viable from a business perspect and he'd just lost two fights back-to-back against Lewis - he'd been gifted a draw in the first fight - thus the WBA did not have a clear mandatory.

The WBA agreed to allow Lewis to fight the much hyped Grant while they decided who would be their mandatory provided he fought their mandatory immediately after the Grant fight. After Lewis and Grant and finalised the deal for their fight the WBA picked Ruiz out of thin air to be their mandatory - he'd done nothing to earn the spot and nobody really understood the decision.

The WBA were still prepared to let Lewis fight Grant first but Ruiz and his promoter Don King went to court to enforce the contract clause to force Lewis to fight the WBA mandatory or be stripped of the belt. Lewis refused because he'd already set up the fight with Grant and the fight with Grant was much more lucrative than any fight against the obscure and mostly unknown Ruiz would have been.

Botha does not come into this equation at all.

Byrd would have schooled Lewis, and Lewis knew that. What better admission that dropping the belt to avoid him?

Yeah, so Lewis gave up the belt and arranged a fight with Kirk Johnson instead. A fight everyone wanted to see.
