No, Holyfied fought Byrd with a bad shoulder. He got his should repaired for the Toney fight.

This was still a great win for a man who started out as a middleweight and is 5 foot 10. Holyfield was ranked in the TOP 5 by Ring Magazine and was the favourite to beat Toney.

 

I think people might be reading a bit too much into the Holyfield win.

At the time it was seen as a win over an empty shell, and the calls for Holyfield to retire became deafening.

At best it was part of a long losing streak, where if Holyfield fought a significant contender, we knew he was going to end up with another L.

Walcott’s record going into the first Louis fight was remarkable. He had practically cleaned out the top ten. The outcome of his first fight with Louis is a controversial topic on this forum, but he could at the least walk away from it with his head held high. I don’t think embarrassed himself in the second fight either.

I think that heavyweight Toney is a pygmy next to him to be honest.

 

I don't know if you was around back then but I remember thinking jerseys negativity and showboating was pathetic for a journeyman and that an old shot Louis handled him comfortably.

 

Walcott was robbed first time and second time was up on the cards and got caught. Have you seen either fight? The Holyfield that Toney beat was like 10 years past his best a shell of his former self.

Toney shouldn't be given too much credit for the Holyfield win as that Holy was beyond shot to bits. He already looked a shadow of himself several years earlier when he went to a tepid decision against career journeyman Vaugn Bean. Walcott cut it close with a Louis who was still good enough to be the champ. Louis was 33 not 43 like Holyfield.

 

Would be a close technical fight, you'd probably go with Walcott because he was in better shape but a great contest

Walcott deserved the decision vs. Louis in their first fight, even Louis thought that. Walcott fought well in their rematch but was stopped in the 11th round.

Walcott went 2-2 (1) vs. Ezzard Charles. He gave Marciano hell before being stopped in the 13th round of their first fight, Walcott was almost 40.

Walcott went 2-1 (1) vs. Elmer Ray, he lost once by split-decision. He beat Jimmy Bivins. He beat Harold Johnson, KO3. He beat Joey Maxim x2. He also beat Joe Baksi, Lee Q. Murray, Curtis Sheppard, Lee Oma, O. Agramonte, and Johnny Shkor among others.

Toney was a very good fighter but I think Walcott would win by decision.
