You did. You said he's chasing welterweights to avoid real challenges like Quillin.

There's a reason why Fury is an uber defensively minded fighter.:!:

And wait a minute didn't Huck beat your other hero Povetkin and get robbed, all the while not fighting scared like Wlad did.

I'm not saying a guy like GGG is a bum for example. GGG deserves to be lauded as a talented fighter.

But people want a deification. But he's not close to that level yet. He's just not. He needs more than Murray and Lemieux.

You did say both parts. And since when a guy who hasn't weighed in below 155 lbs in years is a welterweight?

Kovalev beating a decrepid, frail old Hopkins has to be the most overrated win in years. Pretty meaningless win, Hopkins barely threw a punch after getting dropped in the first. Pascal is no more than a decent scalp, got beaten soundly in his next fight and given a gift. Very strange to have a rematch, I think Duvas just doing her best to keep Sergey away from punchers.

At the end of the day we still don't know how either Kov or GGG will fare against elite opposition.

But not Cleverly? A guy who was far less of a challenge to Kovalev than Pascal and B-Hop?

Hopkins who beat Murat, Shumenov and Cloud all three guys easily on the level of Bellew and Fonfara and far exceeding Sukhotsky and Karpency was far from decrepit, he only conveniently became decrepit after facing Kovalev. You're an ass.

No, he was already decrepid when Dawson beat him. Just not as decrepid. Murat, Shumenov and Cloud? Please.

Styles make fights. The Cleverly we saw against Fonfara would most likely outwork both Pascal and Hopkins.

Hopkins has been losing for like a decade over and over again man. He's not Hopkins anymore, isn't close to it and hasn't been for a while.

Two losses to Taylor. Lost to Calzaghe who's whole career only amounted to the Kessler fight. Had a freaking draw with Pascal, who's B-level. He gave an abomination of a performance against a shot Jones Jr. Was defeated by Chad Dawson. So how many times do you want him to lose until you decide he's old as ****? He hasn't a KO in over 11 years. And people still think Kovalev's win over Hopkins was badass.

I can see the point of the original post, but i would extrapolate it to all levels of boxing. Ultimately, you can not give a fighter his full due without really knowing where he stands in the boxing landscape. Taking on competitive fights, or perceived to be competitive beforehand, and seeing what level the fighter is at depending on the results of the fights is the only way to properly rate a boxer and give them their respective due respect.

As for Hopkins, Pascal, Kovalev and ranking them; historically speaking, a 50 year old Hopkins and Pascal are not A class fighters. However, considering you can only fight people who are around at the time, then, relatively speaking, they are A class as they are the elite of the LHW division of this era.
