I think there is no way that Ruddock enters the ring wearing the trunks of yesteryear. Burns would have too much of an advantage. In the ring, Ruddock would be a virtual Godzilla next to Burns ( expect in hip measurements ), approaching Toyko with no mad scientist to aid Burns.
Interestingly, in his professional career, Ruddock fought only one light heavyweight (as Tommy Burns realistically was). Ruddock struggled to a majority decision, meaning that he did not win on at least one judges scorecard. Ruddock, to be fair, fought in a time that was dominated by superheavyweights and where light heavys didnt ever get a shot (hardly) and if they did, they were not required to fight regularly enough to make going up in weight a problem. Although it should be remembered that other than Bowe and Lewis (who ko d Ruddock brutally early ), the most successfull fighters of this era were probably Holyfield (ex 190 lber), Tyson (closer to Burns in stats than Ruddock), Spinks (ex light heavy) and Moorer (ex light heavy). The bigger fighters (leaving aside Johnson who was better than both) that Burns fought gave him far less trouble than the bigger guys he fought like Rickard, Squires, Lang etc. The other interesting thing to note is that both while both of these fighters fought all time great figthers (Tyson and Johnson), Ruddock was KOd in 7 rounds the first time and Burns whilest stopped in the 14th, technically would not have been stopped under the 12 round rules Ruddock fought under. It also goes without saying that Ruddock was stopped a lot more than Tommy Burns who outside of Johnson was never stopped. So far as what was actually achieved in their own time, you would have to say that Tommy Burns achieved more than Ruddock, wouldn you?
