The bottom line is that we have no way of knowing.

In the absence of any better evidence, we could say that Tyson hit harder in the balance of probability, based on the fact that he was heavier.

I don’t think you could put it any more strongly than that.

That's pretty strong, though. It would certainly be enough when comparing the power of Provodnikov and Kovalev, or even Golovkin and Kovalev.

Always hard to say, Tyson started quicker and tried you early, while Marciano had the late power (Tyson only once finished a man after 8)

both had elite power if they hit you cleanly...Tyson came out fresh & fast hit you clean and you fell, if you did not he fizzled, Marciano was steady and ready but not in a rush, he worked the body arms etc. but his power remained.

I would not like to share the ring with either man but if I made it to rd 10 I wouldn't like to see Rocky in the other corner

I would not be shocked if Golovkin hit harder than Kovalev.

I would not expect it, but I would not fall off my chair backwards, if presented with evidence to that affect.

That might be because he finished so many so early.

Both were brutal punchers for their respective sizes and frame... and just in general.

In a single shot test it would be wise to favour Tyson but then that is not how a fight works. Furthermore Tyson's great strength as a puncher was founded in speed and angles as opposed to the pure weight of the punch i.e. Foreman and Shavers.

Marciano's great strength as a puncher was in this steady delivery of clubbing shots. He had little use for the tapping ones to try and open you up like Frazier sometimes employed but just continually thumped away with both hands, to the body and up through the middle.

Rocky could take you out with a well-timed swing but his signature was to make you look especially ugly post-fight whereas Tyson's was to short-circuit you, often with a combination as opposed to one.

    Different operators.

Marciano is the size of a light heavyweight in todays age.
Give Tyson, Marciano's gloves. Tyson would have actually killed some of Marciano's opponents.

I think Tyson hit considerably harder. He demonstrated brutal stoppages over much larger guys ..

I always hated a good solar plexus shot I could take shots in the gut all day but that hurt. This is before I learned to blow out the worst body shot I ever took was when I was an amateur sparring with a mexican pro he was a feather and I was middle he wore 8oz gloves and I never questioned it I could take it?.......I let him throw some punches to my body and that was when I learned how bad a liver shot hurt wow. I had alot of fights as an amateur and a few pro and I think back to the different types of styles and punching power. I could handle a thudding puncher with heavy hands but I hated fighters with hard hands like rocks those guys hurt. Tall lanky fighters were my achilles heel Hearns would have killed me.
