Andy has no profile here. Lived abroad mostly. You have to sell yourself to the public some bit in fairness. But giving every advantage to the challenger is amazingly stupid.
Absolutely shocking. Just like Wlad Fury, you simply cannot predict when a fighter won't mentally turn up and basically bottle it. Looked like a fix, just like the Wlad fight. Even late on, they don't let their hands go when they are on course to lose. In both cases, Fury and Billy were quite horrific themselves but the winner was the best of a bad bunch.
I do not know, **** was not quite as good as Randy, and was not a natural Middleweight, thus Lee would have fancied his chances. So if they had met, it is quite possible **** Turpin would have robbed Lee!
Think Lee was finding BJS very tough to hit. Was impressed by BJS. That move for the first knock down was textbook. Got to work on his stamina though, looked like he was gassing in the final two rounds and it wasn't even a fight of high intensity.
Not so sure about that. VO2 Max issues being BJS biggest concern. CEJ knows he can take Saunders into deep water in the latter rounds. Tough fight to call if you're being honest.
Andy and his management were incredibly naieve. They gave up every advantage. They left no safety net in place if anything went wrong - and it did go wrong. They put all their eggs in one basket - that Andy would definitely win! you cant do that in boxing - ever! Due to Wazzens involvement the dice was horibly loaded in Billy Joes fvour all along. Remember how - even when the fight was supposed to be in Limerick I pointed out Wazzens dismissive attitude to the Limerick promotion? How he was clearly making no effort whatsoever - and was just sitting back waiting for the Limerick promotion to fail. Remember how he dismissed Katie Taylor? Wazzen clearly did everything he could to scupper the Limerick fight - and incredibly Team Andy let him get away with it. It was so blatant. A champion who behaved like a desperate unknown challenger! He went to the challengers country- fought a Wazzen fighter on a Wazzen promotion - with all English judges. Andy must be fuming today. He must be kicking himself!
not sure the nationality of the judges or the venue had much to do with being put on the seat of your pants twice. Though I do agree that these days it seems like standard practice for champ to have a rematch clause just in case, but maybe that shows a sign of weakness, the suggestion that you might lose.
No good shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. As for allowning Frank to take over, this is what happens when you have poor management, poor promototion, and a low media profile. End of the day, Lee was soundly beaten, and had saunders stepped on the gas with a bit more conviction in the third, there would have been no need for judges. Complacency has ended the careers of many fighters.
Agreed. Cant see what all the fuss around the 'great' Booth is about??? Manny would never have been caught out like that. total shambles by team Lee!
I've never understood what all the fuss is about either. What or who is Booths claim to fame ? Only been in his company once, but on first impression i thought he was an arrogant, big headed pr1ck. Great game plan to fight at a slow pace against a fighter with questionable stamina, and try to counter a counter puncher ? I have the utmost respect for Andy Lee, but he can have no cause for complaint, if anything i think he got away lightly due to his rep as a puncher. Saunders had him almost finished with a short right, and had he thrown caution to the wind, i'm convinced he would have stopped him.
